This is really sad. I hope the site fixes the problems, and perhaps he will re-join.
What exactly are the problems the site needs to fix? I think the only thing needing to be fixed is FYoungs' attitude. Yes, he is a very smart man and provided a lot of information to this site. However, if any member can't abide by Jason's rules they need to leave. This site is bigger than any one member, the input from everyone is what makes this site successful. No matter how important any particular member thinks they are to Ford-Diesel, the fact remains that the site will go on without them. It seems some members have a problem conforming to Jason's guidelines for this site. If that's the case go out and start your own. I have learned a lot here and that knowledge has come from more than one member. I am very happpy with the way this site is run, and I think Jason did the right thing in regard to Mr. Young.

Moving this to Ford-Diesel.Com Forum where it belongs. Feel free to continue discussing it there, but JGblkLand said it much better than I could have. It doesn't matter how educated and experienced someone is, they still must abide by our rules. Frederick couldn't, so he left. If he apologizes and tells me he will now follow our rules, he's free to come back.
Oh, Frederick is out there in Cyberspace. I've run across a post or three of his. One place I've seen him recently is freeautoadvice.com . Others are still benefiting from his wisdom .
Been spectating a long time and thougt it was time to contribute.
I too have missed fyoungs posts. He seems to be well informed and I never felt he was rude to anyone or got out of line. If he did I wish someone would point me to the post in question as I would lik to read it.
My impression was that what fyoung was complaining about was being "censored"... and that he wasn't necessarily "breaking the forum rules".
I would guess most Americans would be angered at being censored...after all freedom of speech is one of our two biggest freedoms...right next to gun ownership.
As for this:

quote:
Originally posted by JGblkLand: This site is bigger than any one member, the input from everyone is what makes this site successful.

This site is indeed "bigger than any one member". That also goes for moderators. The "owners", who have graciously agreed to set up this forum to allow the flow of information, have an obligation to: let the information flow...even if it doesn't necessarily agree with their opinions. That would be censorship!
I don't know if that is what really happened to fyoung or not...but that's what I heard.
I guess some things were not meant to be :-) I must say though I've enjoyed my email correspondence with Frederick, enjoy his take on things. He'd be welcome in my living room anytime. And no we don't agree on everything, but the last thing I want is a Tom Pike clone who would offer no challenge to my way of thinking.

I've watched the Frederick controversy as long as its been going on and really don't see the problem here,
Jason says:" Also, people who pull out the "freedom of speech" card, don't actually know how it works. You can stand on any street corner and talk long and loud about anything you want. You can't come into my house and do it though. The same thing applies to privately run forum"
this is the part I feel most of you are not paying attention to, the my house part.
and Tom Pike says: "He'd be welcome in my living room anytime. "
AHA ! key word, your living room, my friends don't come into my house and start talking vulgar, certainly not after being warned not to and as a matter of respect, I don't go into my friends living room and start talking vulgar either. no one had a problem with Frederick's challenges, I enjoyed his posts also, he is well educated, and well traveled, something I'll never be, but he also had a problem with authority or in our case moderators.
TSteenburgen, welcome to the site ! glad to have ya ! between trolling and joining I've been here a long time, and based on another dozen or so boards i cruise, feel our moderators do a fabulous job, what you probably don't realize, is our moderators, out of respect and benefit of the doubt, will warn you first by e-mail, you want to persist, iron hand, I have no problems with that, this is Jason's house after all. So remember the mom rule, dont say anything here you wouldnt say in front of her.
Later, and regards, Randy

The comparison of the living room to the street corner is an interesting point and I couldn't disagree with the both of you more!
This forum is how many thousands strong? Many thousands I would guess. HARDLY a suitable crowd for a "living room"...even Bill Gates doesn't have a living room THAT large.
No, I submit that what you have created here IS a street corner...a HUGE, ELECTRONIC street corner. Certainly NOT a "living room".
Of course, being a private enterprise, there is nothing to dictate how it is run except for propriety itself.
At any rate, PLEASE don't think I am complaining because I really am not. Merely playing the Devil's advocate.
I am extremely grateful for this forum. I have absolutely beyond a doubt learned more than I could EVER learn anywhere else and appreciate EVERYONE who contributes to make this an amazing source of information!
As a privately-owned site, this is no streetcorner.
First Amendment considerations have nothing to do with private speech - they have to do with the government controlling what we can say. There is no government involvement here, so the 1A is not applicable.
In the same way an unruly patron can be removed from a business by the owner, we can be removed from this site if we do not wish to follow the rules. This is no public streetcorner - it is a site owned entirely by one individual. It is about as far from a public streetcorner as we can get.

Are there some guidelines on the site (I confess I have not looked very hard) as to what type of things are not allowed in posts?
I understand the issue with vulgarity, but doesn't UBB try to handle that issue?
I too don't remember ever seeing a post by FYOUNG that I considered something worthy of deletion, but I admit I have not read them all. Some of them could be a little rough, but I ignore stuff pretty well when necessary.
As to censorship, as Jason's private enterprise he certainly has the right to run it as he sees fit. I totally agree with that principle.
But, most organizations running forums take a hands off approach. They want the protection provided by claiming you are a "common carrier". That is you provide a mechanism for people to communicate, but you do not control the communication. By doing any "censoring" you are tacitly taking responsibility for what is said on the forum. As I said, most people try to avoid that.
Since the offending posts have been deleted, I would be interested in knowing what type of things I should avoid discussing. I am not being faceitous of sarcastic, but I do like this site and want to avoid any issues.

It's fyoung who has to fix his problems. I think you're a bit backwards. Just an opinion though.
