Where are the rules?

I was just wondering where the main list of rules for the forums is? I know that in all the forums there is the same sticky thing that outlines the basic rules and such, and i know they're not up in this forum because of whatever reason. But the moderators are always saying we can't post stuff such as giving stuff away and whatever. So... where does it say we can't post stuff up that we are giving away, or even selling for that matter. I've given it a good going over, the site that is, and can't find these rules. Did we see these rules when we signed up? I can't remember.

In addition to the posting rules the basic membership rules are <font color="red">HERE</font>. As far as your specific question as to giving away, selling items or looking for used items from other members it's more of how the site is set up and intended to be run by the site owner as I understand it. There is a "for sale" section along with a "wanted area" of the site so logically items falling into those should go there and not in the technical forum ... it's not so much as a rule, but where things rightfully belong. Also, it's simply not practiable to cover every scenario. If you notice in each main forum it says basically that the forum is for "techncial" type discussions which things like selling or giving away items are not appropriate. The forums are for the exchange of technical information and topics to benefit the general membership and not a particular member from a financial standpoint.

Jason might correct me and add the correct info if mine was not exactly correct, but that is how I understand the structure. There are also some judgement that has to be applied at times in certain situations and while not perfect I and I think the other mods try and do our best to be fair and even handed and I know some will disagree, but that is how I see it.

While on the subject of the For Sale items, A member asked a question a week ago about giving something away and it was deleted, I posted something similar in a technical forum about 6 weeks ago and it went unnoticed by a moderator (gotcha Larry [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bleh.gif[/img]) if a guy has something that he is willing to give away for nothing more than the price of shipping would the "other" forum be an ok place to post these types of items [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif[/img] many people look at the for sale forum much less than the "other" forum and my guess is that the majority of TDS members NEVER look at the "Other" forum
