Why Close "how long on break in oil" Thread?

What, Smokey closes this thread because why??? Because he does not agree with the information presented? Because he has been directly contradicted?

Sure, there have been a few posts that did not contain useful information. But it has to be okay to argue once in a while. It did not get ugly...

I have seen some threads go on ad naseum for hundreds of posts that said nothing new.

So, you disagree with an F-D.com admin and you get your thread closed down? That's real nice.....

Scott

Re: Why Close "how long on break in oil" Thread?

There were both name calling and inappropriate language that had to be edited. Usually, when that happens the WebMaster wants us to close a thread.

Folks can discuss breakin oil all they want. But when the discussion degenerates into attacks on participants instead of discusion of the topic, then the thread gets closed. That's what the webmaster wants. So that's what happens.

Re: Why Close "how long on break in oil" Thread?

Smokey's got it right - he said it better than I would have.

As long as a discussion is civil and on topic, we usually allow it to go on until everyone gets tired and quits. When the name calling and offensive language enter, it gets locked, or deleted. That's what the boss wants, that's what we do.

Re: Why Close "how long on break in oil" Thread?

Smokey,

Here is what you wrote when you closed the thread:

In reply to:

Well, since we've about beat that subject to death, let's talk about something else.

Thread closed.

Now you say:

In reply to:

There were both name calling and inappropriate language that had to be edited. Usually, when that happens the WebMaster wants us to close a thread.

Next time you close a thread, tell us the real reason you are closing it. Then I can at least complain about the real reason you closed the thread.

In any case, I think you should have dealt with the individuals doing the "name calling" and using the "inappropriate language" instead of closing down the thread. Why punish all involved when only a few are behaving inappropriately?

Scott

C'mon boys. These folks volunteering to support a forum we all enjoy for free don't have time to be babysitting folks who can't play by the rules.

Be civil and all is cool. Even be disagreeable. Just don't be rude.

Re: Why Close "how long on break in oil" Thread?

scaesare,

All I was asking for was some honesty and then I expressed an opinion.

It may be easier to shutdown the thread when a bad apple or two go at it. But that is not the best way to handle it, in my opinion.
