Is it just because it would take up so much server bandwidth? It would be nice to have them enabled. What if it were enabled but you had regulations of like.. the picture has to be under 100k and you could only have like.. 3 pictures per thread.. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif[/img]
I'm agin' it. Forums that allow photos to automatically show up in sigs are deathly slow for us folks out in the sticks with dial-up access to the internet.
Put it in a link, then if I care, I'll click on your link. But don't force everybody else to wait while your 3 photos load.

umm, aren't img tags are for off site pix? Hosted on a different server. How could that slow TDS?
I'm on dial up, and see that most of the avatars, graemlins and icons take longer to load than the advertising.
[/ QUOTE ]
Correct, the images ARE hosted offsite, however, by embedding them in a message, it could take forever for you to READ the message while waiting for some 250k image file to load. depending on browsers, you might not get to read anything UNTIL all files have loaded.
And i've PM's a few ppl who had 1.2 megabyte avatar images under their names. usually honest mistakes.
I don't know about the software on this site, but most forums software has the option to let each user choose whether to view the pictures in the posts or just the hyperlinks.
However, a serious drawback to having the picture appear in the post is most people that post pictures don't have them sized right. This causes you to have to scroll right and left is the picture is too big.
Say nothing about keeping tabs on the appropriateness of the photos that would appear. But the downloading time of the forum is a greater issue as Smokey mentioned.

Smokey is right about you guys in the sticks with only telephone hook-up. I don't (and can't) use my [img] pics on this forum because of the nature of the forum, in that, a lot of country folks with only telephone hook-ups visit this site; whereas many other sites are mainly city folks who have cable capabilities. I personally know that Smokey's download time is painfully slow. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Dang, Brother, you spend a lot of time on here don't you? 14,970 posts??? Does anybody have more?
[/ QUOTE ] CLICK HERE Glen, for the scoop. He's over 2 to 1 ahead of anyone. He's an All Star . What even more amazing is that he actually posts 100% useful stuff. No "slumming" like most of us do to some extent.
Yeah, Bundo, he is an All-Star in my books. He's my bro and I love him dearly. He is head and shoulders above my need to just chat about car stuff on this diesel forum. I readily admit, I know nothing about Ford Diesel trucks. He gets down to the nitty-gritty with diesel truck stuff. I don't own a diesel truck as he does, but if you visit the Vintage-Mustang Forum site, I think you will get an idea of a different side of me when it comes to working on Ford/Mustang cars.
I joined this site from my Brother's interest here. I am glad it keeps him interested and in some way his knowledge and research abilities makes other members better informed about their diesel trucks.
