Re: Why was my post deleted?

Very likely because, technically according to the law, if a vehicle came with a cat, it must retain it.

The site owners do not want retribution for discussing something that can be interpreted as illegal.

Re: Why was my post deleted?

Messing with your emissions control system is illegal. Specifically, gutting a catylic convertor or removing a catylic convertor is illegal. Federal law. Huge fine.

We don't discuss "how to" commit crimes on TheDieselStop. Sorry I didn't e-mail you about it, but I hadn't found a round toit by the time you posted here.

Normally, we don't discuss specific moderations in public. Mainly to not embarass the perpetrator. But also because it takes up too much of our precious time.

But we do discuss general website rules in public, and that's sorta what this is. One of Jason's rules is that we don't discuss how to go about committing crimes in the forums. And I doubt that hhrecovery will be embarassed by my responding in public to the question he asked in public.

Some complain that we don't catch all the threads that discuss deleting or gutting the cat. All I can answer to that is there are lots of threads and very few moderators, and besides, the Highway Patrol doesn't catch all the speeders, either.

And each of us might go at this particular issue slightly differently. I like to do what I just a couple of minutes ago did HERE since it sort of reminds the general membership of some of the TDS rules. I just happened to catch his thread by it's title and it being close to the top.

how would you become a moderator if one wanted to "help out?"

[/ QUOTE ]

First you "help out" by being a good citizen and contribute to the discussions in at least one of the forums. Then you make it known to the site owner that you'd like to volunteer. He'll review your posts and your background and your e-mails to him, and decide whether to offer you the un-paid position as volunteer moderator.

I see you're 18, but that might not matter. When Jason started this website, he was barely dry behind the ears himself, and he recruited young fellers to help him. Those guys have mostly grown up now, and some graduated from college, but they weren't much older than you when they began as moderators.

But he also took on some older men. johnm was one of the first, then me, and later Dick Cutting, and I think the last one was that old retired swabbie - Larry M - who's just a kid compared to me but he really is retired from the Navy.

I'm one of those older *(#&% that Jason chose. Almost everything that Smokey said except in my case is true and I agree with except ... I never mentioned I wanted this job ... the first indication and I hope Jason doesn't mind, but I saved the original PM he sent me back on 01/31/03 and I'm the junior mod on the block and am probably pushing the sage "Smokey" , "johnm" and maybe a couple others in age ... but that I don't think it is a criterion for Jason choosing his Mods/Admins ... Only he knows the criterion on how he chooses his Mods/Admins and I just don't worry about that since that's his decision

[ QUOTE ]

Larry,

Would you be interested in being a moderator (mostly for the Super-Duty forums)? a comment that is not germane removed but had to do with a loss of a moderating capabilities You've made great suggestions over the years (even if I don't always take them) and I think would be a good choice.

Thanks,
Jason

[/ QUOTE ]

I got sucked in and with all it's ups and downs have totally enjoyed helping Jason and all the other great Mods/Admins/members here at TDS in helping Jason run this great resourse for FORD diesel enthusiasts.

Re: Why was my post deleted?

I've heard you called "Larry the slasher" by other members here in past.

I read most of your replys and post along with a select group of others when I see something posted for I have come to respect a hand full of peoples thinking here. You are an asset to the site Larry. It wouldn't be what it is without you.

I believe it takes an "older" person to be wise. At the early stages in most peoples lives we maybe smart in a lot of ways but lacking in wisdom. The wisdom part is in knowing how to deal with situtations and the right think to say, or how to convey thoughts and ideas to others. I see many disagreements on here as to what is "right" or the generally accepted way of doing things. Every now and again those thoughts get challenged. Sometimes the challenger has presented a compelling argurment of thought and reason. Whether enough reason or fact has been offered to change the accepted views of the many - sometime the person is making good sense, and trying to stimulate thinking and understanding. A wise man can nurture this and still nudge the "thinker" along without insult or pride getting injured.
I can't say I always have or will agree with everything you say, but I respect you and what you show you stand for. It's not easy to take a stand. you will be cursed by some - praised by others. You just can't make everybody happy. But taking the stand shows everybody that you have yor own beliefs and values - which you will stand up for and defend. However if new ways prove to be better than the old ones a wise man isn't so closed minded as to stead fastly hold on to the old ways just because that's how it's always been done.

"At a boy Larry"
