Why are you guys so eager to close threads!?

Ok, I want to know why my thread was closed on the Other forum?
Here is the description of the "Other" Forum.

"Discussion of all other topics not necessarily diesel related. User-surveys, general questions, etc."

Wouldnt a "General question" About tires fit into that catagory? It isnt Necessarily diesel related.

I mean everyone thats on here has tires on their truck right?

Why would I only be allowed to post it in the catagory my truck is in? 94-97 who cares what year my truck is?

Again, We all have tires on our truck correct? So why cant I post it there?

Re: Why are you guys so eager to close threads!?

I didn't read the thread, and I assume they simply moved it. I can give you a probable simple answer. Tire discussions many times get into clearance issues, lifts required, etc, which all are relative to what year truck they are going on. IF I answered you about what tires fit your truck without lifting, but I was relating to my 99, the answer would most likely be incorrect.

Re: Why are you guys so eager to close threads!?

First of all, the topic was about a 94-97 truck. The Other forum explicity says "all other topics". Since your topic fit in another forum, that is where it goes.

I noticed you had posted there as well. Cross-posting uses up computer resources and is not a good idea.

I tried to be a good guy by just closing the thread. I figured that way, you'd get some action from Other Forum denizens who could see your request. I could have just deleted it, but decided to cut you a break.

Guess that bit of leeway wasn't appreciated, eh?

Part of the job of moderator is to put misplaced posts in the correct forum. That is what I did.

Re: Why are you guys so eager to close threads!?

Add in that a '97 F-250 has IFS and the '99 and up forum wouldn't be a good spot for it either. I agree with Kevin.
I didn't note if it was 4X4 but still, '97 tire question fits the '97 forum, not the "Other" forum.

JMHO.

Re: Why are you guys so eager to close threads!?

Wrong Guys! Go back and re-read the post. Better yet I will put it here for you to read.

"My last set are shot I only got about 15k out of them.
I need 285/75/16's Something prefferably with a treadwear warrenty.

I need somthing thats gonna do fairly decent in the snow and the rain.

I am not looking for mud tires.

I like the price of the Dunlops Radial Rover AT's, and some others.

But not ever having them I dont have a clue how they do. Seems like they must do ok since they
have a 60k warrenty on them.

So Give me some good ideas, I need em quik.

Thanks"
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''
There, did I ask about a clearence issue or anything about lifts on a peticular truck?.

NO, I asked about a the life expectancy of that size tire or a decent brand with that same tire!

It didnt matter what truck they where on. They could be on a s10 for all that matters.

If it would have pertained a question of that nature it would have been set in the forum / forums that fit that truck.

But since everyone that post on these forums see's the "Other" section, as well as the sections for their peticular truck, I thought it it was a good place to put it.

Agian, We all use tires right? If I am not mistaken there is a ton of that same size tire being used in all the forums, But appearntly I cant post the question on them either because my truck is older/newer?

It seems that a fellow F-D Member has a New SPD SUV and his post is on lug nuts, it was allowed to stay. Even though the truck is newer and uses Self-Centering lugs, Shouldnt that post be stopped and put on one of the SPD or the SUV Section?

I mean really, his truck does have lug nuts like the rest of ours so I see that as being an *Ok* question to ask a broader audience.

And here we are again, When asked on the *Other* section "How low is a quart low?" A moderator even answered the question for him, instead of telling him to go to the "Proper" section.

This is one of the same moderator's critizeing me here.

Most of us know these engines changed some in the newer trucks ,
So I clearly see where it would be needed to be put into the proper section to get the correct answer.

Sheesh guys, whats your problem?
If its a topic about everything we all have to use, why does it have to be doomed to one section?

I cant tell you how many oil debates (i.e which ones better) have been on the *Other* section, here too these are allowed to stay alive. Even though displacment & oil Capacities has grown throughout the years, shouldnt these be regulated to their paticular trucks section?

Should I even get into the CPS debate we have had on the *other* section, Their guys with all sorts of differant years posting about that.

As much as I love using this site, I get erked buy how it is ran sometimes.

And it isnt me, just look how many people have been one here complaining lately

Re: Why are you guys so eager to close threads!?

Deezil,

The bottom line is that someone was trying to help you out at the same time administrating a well run and neat site. Under your logic we could have a topic on all of the forums because all of the forums typically have diesel engines that turn tires. Instead, we like to run a tidy site and there are many users on the 94-97 forum that would be best suited to answer your question. I know that if I were looking for tires for a certain truck I would want my information to come from those users with the same exact truck. It only makes sense to me that you would want information on those tires that would be useful to you. No sense in asking a guy who owns a chevy in the Other forum to tell you how a pair of BF Goodrich tires will perform on a 97 F series. Hell even a gasser F-series will not perform the same as a Diesel when it comes to handling.

I fully believe the moderator inferred the information from your signature and the amount of treadwear. To me it was a signature description of Ford IFS. Your description would have immediately made me believe that you were talking about the tires on your F250.

Your continued tirade here is really unbecoming especially when multiple explanations show the moderator intention was to help you out as to what is acceptable here and what is not while still attempting to solve your immediate problem.

I am going to give you some information on what you could do with your tires.. Hopefully you will appreciate it and understand that we as moderators want you to be satisfied and that splitting a hair on where a topic goes is really a discretionary decision that we make from time to time. Not to be thought of as a smack in your face. Especially in this case.

I prefer Cooper Discoverer or Discoverer STE. I have a set on my F-250 and have had them up front for about 10k. with good results. I love them. Treadwear warrantees on Truck tires is just about impossible to find, especially when they see you are driving a F-250 w/ Independent Front Suspension.

Additionally the Discoverer tires are used on our E350's in NYC with the Triton 8 cyl above them tend to last about 15-20k when not rotated. They get a little choppy looking and noisy but still have good tread.

Unfortunately independent front suspension comes with a price. You need to insure alignment is maintained and tires are pretty much going to be a significant wear part that will not last much more than 25k.

Hope that helps.

Keith

Fact is, I agreed with Kevin and was being supportive of his decision.

You may be right about the oil question. One thing wrong, I'm not a moderator. I'm an editor and, I wasn't criticizing you here. In fact, I'm about to but tires for my 2001 truck and I'll go through the '99 and up, general questions forum for info. I surly wouldn't post it in 2 forums just because I wanted an answer fast.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would have posted a general question under "general questions"..

Re: Why are you guys so eager to close threads!?

I just dont understand the problem with asking a question about a product on the boards. Especialy when I Look at this and it falls under that cat.

"Discussion of all other topics not necessarily diesel related. User-surveys, general questions, etc."

*General questions* I think a Tire brand question IS a General question who's to say that tire wasnt going to be for a car or something I drive or My wife , kids drive.

I see alot of car talk on the *other* forum so why would you single me out?

Again I will say , we all have to use tires correct?

You didnt see my point anyway here.

Same way with almost everything else that gets closed, You try to find the *Close Thread* Button before you even read the dang thing.

Thats what I am upset about.

Re: Why are you guys so eager to close threads!?

Well, you also posted in the 94-97 forum, so if it is indeed for your wife's car, it would be in the wrong forum there. Are you saying I should have closed that one instead? And you would have been happy with me closing that one, eh? C'mon, get real.

You posted in the General Diesel forum and I closed that one as well. You posted in the Other forum although it was clear from your post that you were talking about tires for your truck which is a 94-97. Give me a little credit, eh? It fit best in the 94-97, so that is where it goes.

Unless you are not talking about a 94-97 truck, in which case I will personally open a thread for you in the appropriate forum. But cross-posting in lots of forums which don't apply to your truck is inappropriate.

What is the big deal, DD? You put your post all over the place, I cleaned up and put it where it would get the most responses. I did not delete the other posts you made but locked them and directed people to the right forum so you could get responses. And you are having a snit because I tried to help you out as best I could while still doing my job? Sheesh. Can't please some folks.

You registered yesterday. How about waiting a day or two before telling me I don't know anything?

Sorry Goerge , Forgot to mention they closed me down there also, even after people had started to respond. I geuss guys in the general question section dont use tires on thier trucks?

O, and I am pretty familar with the site. I have been around since 99 under a differant name. I wiped that name out for a personal reason.

I have seen many things on the boards that are a little more dicy and questionable than a tire issue.

Re: Why are you guys so eager to close threads!?

Innapropriate!? Its about tires man!

We all use them. Thats why I just didnt post it in one section! We all use them and there is what... 20,000 members here on this site?

I dont get the option of asking them what tire is the best?

O and how was it clearly going on a 94-97 truck? Just from my sig? How would you know what I wanted to put them on?

Did you just closed it without thinking?

Sorry man, who cares how long I have been here, I still think you where wrong in what you did.

Like my last post said, I have been around probably as long as you have been.

Re: Why are you guys so eager to close threads!?

If the tires are for your 94-97 truck, the post belongs there and not anywhere else. I did what Keith said - inferred from your post what you were talking about and moved the post.

If they are not for your truck, just say so and I'll open a post for you in the appropriate forum.

But no, you don't get to use up computer resources posting the same question in a bunch of different forums. That is inappropriate. Choose the most appropriate forum and post your question. Broadcasting your question in several forums is not something that is appropriate.

That makes it at least three times I've explained myself to you. Guess I'm done. Sounds to me like you just want to vent some. I doubt you are trying to understand the policy of the site.
