X vendor said this and X vendor's product this ....
Not sure which forum to put this in so, move it if need be.
And NO, I'm not trying to start anything with what I'm about to say so, put away the flame throwers.
I've noticed, in the upgrades and aftermarket forum, a lot of complaining about vendors. X vendor said this and X vendor's product did this ....blah blah blah. It's getting to the point I hardly go to the 99+ forums unless, I'm looking for an answer. I'm sure there are others that feal this way too.
As for my dealings with vendors that support this site, I have been totaly satisfied. And if for some reason I had a problem with X vendor's product, I'd call them.
Do some of the "venters" in those forums give the vendor a chance to do customer support before venting on the forums? Maybe some do and maybe they don't, dunno. Give 'em a chance. If this was a perfect world, 100% of products produced would be 100% perfect everytime. Hey, this ain't a perfect world.
Now, if X customer called X vendor X amount of times to get something resolved and didn't then, lets us know. But wait a minute, would that be slander or just a non-recommendation?
All I'm trying to say is, give them a chance before venting on the forums.

Re: X vendor said this and X vendor's product this ....
There's nothing wrong with discussing poor service. It's posting your personal problems in the forum and expecting the vendor to see it and respond to you, and then slamming them for not doing so.
You're right on, Sid. If you have a problem with a product, contact the people who make it. Don't waste everybody's time and bandwidth with an attack on a vendor when you haven't put in more than a minimal effort to let them correct the situation.
Re: X vendor said this and X vendor's product this ....
The only problem here is that <a target="_blank" href=http://forums.ford-diesel.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB34&Number=63732 5&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=7&a mp;fpart=>Otro</a> did nothing of what you are saying is wrong. He told his story about poor service from DIS. Unless you are accusing him of lying, he did get the runaround from DIS.
I am glad he told me his story and I think vendors need to taken to the mat when their customer service leaves something to be desired. I bought my Superchips Micro Tuner from another vendor because I did not want an experience like Otro's.

Re: X vendor said this and X vendor's product this ....
Once again it’s a case of double standards. I’m not sure if we’re not allowed to discuss vendors or advertisers? Seem to me some “vendor” and their product is always being discussed. Isn’t that what this site is for? Get the point, whatever forum you go to FORD MOTOR COMPANY (vendor) and their PRODUCT (pick-up truck) is being discussed. So what makes any others different? Service, warranty, design, or what ever isn’t that why we are here?

Here you go Scott, I pulled this from the rules
>>>"You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this BB to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by Ford-Diesel.Com."<<<
I think that covers it!
>>>"Please note that advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are inappropriate on this website and will not be tolerated. Furthermore, topics that are escalating into "flame wars" will be edited, locked, or deleted at the moderators' discretion. Discussions or posts of a religious nature are not allowed in any of the forums. Political discussions are limited to a maximum of one thread in the Other forum at a time. Discussion of or offers of group purchases are not allowed in the forums."<<<
This is on the lines of a flame war! Over and over again.
>>>"Vendor Rules:
Please note that advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, multi-level marketing, blatant cross-posting, promotion of competitive commercial or non-commercial sites and/or their affiliates & organizations in messages or signatures, falsifying identity to promote a site or businesses in which you are involved and solicitations of any manner are inappropriate in this BB and may result in immediate and permanent revokation of your posting rights.
Vendors are not allowed to discuss their competitor's products in any way shape or form. Vendors are far from impartial and we don't feel it is ethical to allow them to evaluate their competition. "<<<
I wish all vendors would follow this last rule!

<hr></blockquote>Ford_Turbo_Diesel,
No, I don't think it does. What in those rules prevents one from discussing a bad experience with a vendor?
If you are not any of the things listed above, which Otro was not, then what is the problem?
One of the most useful pieces of information one can get from a site like this is what vendors are good and which ones are not. Which ones are having problems and those that are not.
Or do you protect those that advertize on this site at the expense of the members?

While this is true, it is making tremendous assumptions that most everyone posting here is genuinely out for the best interests of the membership.
In my experience, this is not always true. In fact, when we add the word vendor or salesman into an argument we will have an immediate reaction. Sort of, how sharks are sent into frenzy by the smell blood in the water miles away. Instead, we have all of the other vendors and his friends joining in to bash the vendor that is currently being pummeled. It can be as silly as this... The victim, who was shortchanged 3 dollars and 10 cents in a misunderstanding on his credit card charge, is crying on the forums. Many sympathetic friends come to his immediate rescue including a contingent of back up by a dozen friends of a living room chip manufacturer, who uses his friend’s dirt bike shop Visa Credit card validator to sell chips. Therefore, we as members have the distinct privilege to enjoy instant idiocy at the expense of the legitimate vendor who only made an insignificant mistake that has now turned into the Poseidon adventure.
Is this an extreme example... absolutely. It just goes to say that people are out to serve their own best interests. One should always ask oneself... What is the person, who is posting this information, getting out of this post? Then ask yourself how could it have been handled differently?
In this case, since you brought up the post, I believe that Otro was a little impatient and wanted a little attention. I think he didn’t get a runaround because he spoke to three different people. Had this been me, I would have asked for the guy I originally spoke to because I would have had the foresight to write the guy’s name down when I ordered the part. Furthermore, I would have only posted it here on the site if I had exhausted all possibilities or was prohibited from speaking to someone at DIS that was in charge.
I have been waiting for a flashlight from a company called Surefire for over 10 weeks now. The guy told me they would be backordered for about 4 weeks due to a bulb problem. I called back in 4 weeks, he said any week now. I believe that if I want to continue business with Surefire that I will have to wait until the bulb problem is resolved before I will get a flashlight. Otherwise, I can choose to not do business with them and cancel my order. Whining about this problem on Ford-Diesel.com would be somewhat unappealing.
To each his own though....

winders,
I did not mention any particular case and will not, it was just a general observation. The jist of it is, give the vendors a chance to fix a problem before bad-mouthing them.
As for the DIS discussion, I think Otro's situation is an issolated one. DIS has always been an outstanding vendor to do business with.
