I was wondering who all here had quads/rides quads. I have an 06 BruteForce 650i, motor been redone to a 783. 2" lift and 27" super light tires for trail riding and 26" outlaws for mud. Hoping to get some 29.5 outlaws soon! Have my HMF full exhaust on the way. Also running front snorkels coming up just in front of my pod.
I rode a Honda once years ago when I was Caribou hunting SE of Nome and found it to have enough power to get the job done. I think it was a 450.
Lots of people have them out here and they are highly regulated. Too many people road hunt with them and travel off the trails so G&F is finally cracking down on them.
One of the guys at work had a Polaris two seater and liked to drive it like he was a wildman. Somehow managed to roll it in a wash and was found a few minutes later by some co-workers, DOA. Shame he was a great guy, early 50's.

A buddy of mine does too. After we're done he says man, we saw some neat country, right? No, I had my eyes down busy dodging ruts, etc, keeping up with him. I have a Sportsman 500 and most always go out alone, stop and call coyotes, take pics, etc. Covers ground faster than on horseback, plus I don't have to feed it. I had buyer's remorse right after I bought it, but turns out I use it quite a bit, more than I thought. Plus it's handy when irrigating my pasture, dragging my arena, fencing, etc. I also had a muffler shop make me a roping dummy out of exhaust pipe which fits right into the receiver hitch.
Mine does very little work, its mostly a play toy. I go to ATV parks and mud parks with it. So far my favorite park by far is Mud Creek in Jacksonville, Tx. I have used for work on the ranch a few times, pulling brush is great for checking fence lines, gets me places no truck or jeep will.
Yeah i tried mine at the sand dunes in Oklahoma, it was fun but with big lugged mud tires they just caused me to bury up plastics deep! Later before we left i switched to my trail tires and they did better, but i still couldnt keep up with my buddies. sand and 4x4s dont mix well!
I've found they don't work miracles in snow either but they're sure more fun than a pickup. After I bought mine I realized what boat owners complain about. You've just GOT to have all the necessary goodies, storage box of your choice, heated hand grips (their great), GPS holder, rifle rack, and most important--a handle bar mounted self-leveling beer can holder.
I'm lucky, from my house I can ride out to the two lane highway, ride along the edge of it for a mile or two then go left or right and I can ride on BLM or oil field land for miles and miles where there's generally a herd of about 200 antelope, a few deer, wild horse herd, chukkars and other critters.
The problem with ATV's is that you need different ones for different terrain. For loose sand you need the speed demons to stay on top of the sand and not dig in. It's just like the difference between a sand buggy and a 4x4. The 4x4 can go out on it but that buggy will run circles around him no matter what. As far as snow it is fine as long as it is a packed surface, either by snow machines or a groomed trail. A few years ago a friend of mine and I headed up on the hill to find some rabbits. We got onto a snow Mobil track and as long as we didn't have to get off of it we were fine. Then came the time to turn around. An hour later we had both machines unstuck and headed back to the main road.
As far as having fun on one I mainly use mine for getting to my hunting areas. That way I don't need to tear up my truck doing it. Also where is is legal I have used it to haul out deer, elk, and an antelope to where I could get my truck to it. But right now it's primary use is keeping mine and my neighbors driveways and sidewalks clear of snow with a snow plow attachment.
Ride the sand here in Oregon got 2 Banshee's and a old Blaster
Where at in Or. My Grandpa lived in Florence. We used to come and visit all the time and went to the dunes there all of the time. The last time(1.5yrs) we were there we actually got on one of those bus buggies and rode the dunes.
Polaris 700's here with EFI, 4x4 shift on the fly. They,re alot of fun and incredibly versatile. My wife and I ride'em year round.... good times.
Actually they're in the avatar!
Peace
Robert
