I have already had my visit from the Census GPS guy about a month ago,I walked into my garage and saw a Ford Explorer sitting in front of my house with an old guy fiddling with something,he saw me watching him and started to explain that they were matching adresses with GPS,I didn't really give it much thought till now.

It's nothing new or complicated. Any GPS owner (wherever they happen to be) can get a person's or business address from the phonebook or wherever, enter it into the GPS and it shows the longitude and latitude of the place, plus route you to the address if you so desire.

This new, sleeker version should suffice.

It's probably nothing they can't triangulate off of google-maps or any other GIS system.

You do not need to let any one your property if you don't want to. Just hang a sign. Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again.

I have not let local assessors in for years. They can guess and specualte all they want. Until they guess in their favor I will keep them away from my properties.

I wonder about this.

We have a long, curved driveway from the road to our house. There is a NO TRESPASSING sign at the front entrance. Several years ago I heard a noise out front while I was in an outbuilding near the house. As I exited the building, I noticed a strange car parked near the house. So I walk up to check things out and around the corner comes a woman with a clip board. I ask her "can I help you?" and she replies, "no, I'm with the appraisal district and we're updating our records".

What the %$#@!?

I was minimally cooperative with her and told her that she needed to finish up and leave. She continued to walk around as if she owned the place. I didn't ask, but have since wondered: What the heck right does a lowly appraisal district clerk have to trespass on marked private property? Where does this right, if it exists, end? Can they look in windows? Enter an open doorway?

I had a run in with an appraisal district clerk about 5 years ago,I walked out and she was peaking through the slats in my fence, she asked me if she could go in back and measure our In ground pool that they didn't know about, she said I could refuse but she would have to guesstimate it and she would guesstimate on the high side,I let her measure it and she was gone in less than 10 Mins.

in Mississippi and Alabama a sign doesn't mean anything. You have to ask the trespasser to leave before it is considered trespassing.

I think part of the answer lies in "easement" law. The electric company, for example, can come onto your property to read their meter and maintain their equipment, including trimming your trees if they're encroaching, and it's not considered trespassing.

Don't expect an improvement any time soon. The "new" White House just reiterated their OK for wiretapping phones & computers without a warrant, as long as they mumble the right mantra beforehand.

You might also ask the ACLU. Start by telling them, "A government agent came to my home yesterday and conducted surveillance, apparently without a warrant and without any reason to believe that a crime or disturbance was taking place."

Our county assessors are fully armed and carry German Shepherds.

No no, I'm just kidding. Relax Super Dave.

They use Aerial photos similar to Google Earth.

Well, exactly. You can give a German Shepherd a steak or something. Assessors, well...they guesstimate... If they are wrong, well, it costs you money and time.
