electric cars

Obama and others are calling for millions of electric cars in the near future. How will the folks in the cities who live in apartments, condos, etc plug in their cars? The mass of extension cords leaving the windows of these buildings will look like the electric wiring in India. How about the guy who leave home only half charged and gets to his pay to park parking place. How will he plug in his car.
Looks like a new business venture is just appearing on the horizon.

Henry Ford probably asked a similar question about gasoline in 1907.

A gas tank fills a heck of a lot faster than a battery charges.

what about electric car pollution. You know the toxins in the batteries. What about the gases released during the charging and discharging cycles and the toxins released from the powerplants. There is cleaner ways to power your vehicle. Think about this, N. Tesla actually produced more electricity than he used to generate it back the the early 1900's.

Laptops and cell phones use the same batteries. Nobody seems to be ranting about disposal of old laptop and cell phone batteries or their outgassing (which hybrid, cell phone and laptop batteries do not do).

It's more efficient and less polluting to use coal power to charge an electric car's battery than it is to put a gas engine in that car.

And are you one of those conspiracy theorists that believes Tesla defied the laws of physics?

Why the concern? They are recycled.

The amount of waste that will be produced is completely irrelevant in the face of your weekly trash can at home and work.

Think about all the disposable batteries that are tossed into landfills daily. This Trumps a Hybrid battery with a life of 15 years that will be recycled.

Why not rant about that?

True, but I see no reason why a battery like the Optimas with Glass Matt technology can't be used if it isn't already.
We have a need for it so through R&D the technology will come. It just won't by noon!

As far as pollution from worn out batteries, an average SD emits about 12 tons of CO2 a year. I'd rather have a battery recycling program than a CO2 pollution problem.

The weight factor of using a battery the size of Optima's would negate the economy increase and then some not to mention fill the entire interior of the vehicle with batteries.

There are a few major scientists and 31,000 other scientists that don't agree.

Disposing a few thousand batteries or cycling a few thousand a year isn't a big deal BUT if the car companies start making hybrids like they made F-150's to the tune of almost a million a year that's a lot of batteries.
