Do the last words people ever said to you stick in your mind?
My grandmother on the way to hospital with a heart attack. "I don't want to go in there, people die there" She died!
My business mentor Casey very sick with prostate cancer "Rich getting old sucks" he was 54 and I was 44 and he died a few days later.
My friend Stevie Ray VAUGHAN sitting on a couch in his Prevost drinking Jack Daniels, with me driving, partying with two young girls, "Rich you really know how to have a good time you're a pi$$er" He died shortly after in an air crash.
The last words you ever hear from friends and family sort of stick with you.
OK have at it.

Friends with Stevie?
I bet you have some stories to tell!
I don't have any, but I do remember what Saddam Hussein said before he met the rope.
"Iraq is nothing without me"
Maybe a country, or a region isn't evolved enough to understand, live in, or even want the concept of freedom..
Mix religious zealots with freedom, it makes for an explosive mix. No pun intended.
Many years ago (’79?), doing some roadie work in ‘Big D’, don’t recall the headliner at the time but we had 3 guys come out as the opener that just blew away the main act.
It was quite amazing to see the crowd reaction as a weird hush came over the audience as a single spotlight was on a guy with head bowed wearing a RED Winchester cut hat, poncho and matching red boots as he was tearing up the licks on an old Fender guitar.
Scuttle Buttin’ (Couldn’t Stand The Weather) was the tune played as you could hear the jaws drop in the audience followed by voices asking “Who is that?” Still to this day, I have never heard anyone put that many guitar notes in 1 minute and 50 seconds!
Many years enjoyed here on Auditorium Shores with Stevie showing up unannounced. On stage with the Fabulous Thunderbirds, it was truly amazing to see the duet with Jimmie reaching around his brother and both playing on the same double neck guitar!
His true talent came out and blossomed when he sobered up, just amazing. He himself said, “so messed up, I don’t even know how I played that!”
A big part of all of us here died when that helicopter crashed, and Austin has never been the same since. I still run into Jimmie around town, so evident that a big part of him was lost on that day also. Sad.

He wanted to avoid press and fans so he stayed at my house on Saratoga Lake in hiding. I knew him when he was not popular and had a bunch of bad teeth and when he became famous had had new teeth he was still the same guy, NICE. He did like to drink and did like his share of young gals! Note the (S) in gals!

And I have a running joke, while I have an ATP Jet plane AND Helicopter License I don't fly CHOPPERS, won't fly in them. When they malfunction they malfunction in a BIG way. A big twin engine with many redundant systems like a S-76 and I might consider it but a 206 Bell Ranger.....no way Jose! A piston engine Robinson R-22........what language is that? NO means no!

There was just something "nuclear great" about SRV.
I don't think any of us can explain it. He just had oceans of the "it" factor in his cup..
I guess this takes us back to the American Idol thread and shows the difference between true God given talent and ability, vs. nothing.

What about a Bell 47 Rich, you know what the glide scope is on one of those?
BTW, ditto on the R-22!

Remember the main rotor is made of WOOD. Aircraft made of wood is way to ancient for me!

One week before my grandma, Nana, passed away (she knew she was going - she had cancer), I told her that she knew where she was going (she was a Christian), and that I didn't want her to be scared. She said to me:
"I'm not scared about where I'm going, I'm scared about how I'm going to get there".
That has stuck with me. Pretty smart thing to say really, especially when your brain is full of cancer.

Also checking out with prostate cancer said "I'm so lonely" went into a coma for about a day and just when we thought it was over he gasps a deep bredth and opens his eyes and says "did you think I was sleeping" he passed later that day but "did you think I was sleeping" were the last words.

This is not her last words, but she spoke them very late in life. I like to ponder them
"If you obey all of the rules, you miss all the fun."

I remember watching the shaky hand of a paramedic trying to start an IV on me when I was shot as a police officer, it was a head wound. I told him to calm down the bullet was not in my brain. He said yes it may be, we have to treat it that way, so I stood up did the DUI test thing, touched my nose, walked one foot behind the other, and he said these famous words, that I still laught my ass off about......" well I guess you know more about what is in your brain that I do".........funny as hell, true story....
