Question Looking for a Yamaha R1 and have some questions.

One of my goals before I return home is to purchase a 2006 R1 LE. However, I am facing several challenges. First, I have been out of the sport bike game for a long time. The second is I am trying to find one from over here in Iraq. So I have to go by what the advertisement dictates. One big problem I am running into is most of these sellers have no idea what they have. Some advertise their R1 as a limited edition when it is an anniversary edition and some advertise it as an anniversary edition when it is a limited edition. It gets me so frustrated that I stop looking for a while. Anyhoo, my question is when I am looking at these ads, what are some obvious tell tell signs I am looking at a true limited edition 2006 model? I want one of the 500 LE models made, not one of the anniversary models. They are very similar in appearance.

R1

There are some very distinct things the LE came with such as Ohlins suspension, Machenessi wheels (wheel spelling is wrong) and a couple other less noticeable things. If you dont find one while your there let me know I can find one for you when you come back. Any more questions let me know I have had a bunch of R1's and still am currently riding one.

I did notice the LE model has gold rims and the anniversy one has black ones. SO that will help. Thanks for the offer, I am very serious about locating one. The only issue I have is if I wait until I get home, I will not have the money.

It's not just the color of those rims. They are a little lighter and they look different because of the different manufacturer.

Additionally, the LE model had a slipper clutch.

Yes, the LE shared a color scheme with one of the R1's that was called an Anniversary Edition.

I'm not sure what the market value is for the LE, but it potentially be less costly to get the R1 you want then add a slipper clutch from Yoyodyne or STM then a set of wheels that you like too.

That has nothing to do with it. I know the LE had several performance upgrades. I was just not noticing the rim color and caliper mount as being different. When I was looking at ads, I saw aniversy editions being advertised as LE's. I want a LE for what it is. I want one of the only 500 made. It has nothing to do with color scheme (even though it is bad ass) or the clutch. I want the complete package.
