Start up time???

From an article I found on AP.

Even if Congress does lift the ban on drilling on the continental shelf, and states go along, energy experts say it's at least a five to seven year process before new drilling could begin — and that could be optimistic The industry already is in a frenetic push to find more sources of hydrocarbons and faces severe shortages of rigs and other equipment and workers.

Construction of nuclear reactors can take many years, sometimes decades, of regulatory hurdles before ground is broken once a new nuclear power plant is proposed. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has nine applications for as many as 15 new reactors; the industry anticipates the first of these around 2016-2017 at the earliest.

What's wrong with this picture? Putting democrat and Republican aside for a moment, does it see reasonable for it to take 5-7 years before they could start drilling if approved.

Does it seem reasonable to take 9 years to start building a reactor?

I've worked for the government before and I realize that everything in the government has red tape but 7-9 years before they start????? No wonder we never get anything done and no wonder why when Toyota wants to get a completely now car on line it takes 1/2 the time as when Detroit does it?

Ya know when they wanted to invade Iraq, and that was staging 300,000 troops and the support logistics that is tremendous it was done in less than a year.

One would think this is as important and things could move along a bit faster?

Check out the date when Kennedy said we will put a man on the moon and how long it took to do so. 8 years and 56 days!!!!!!

So we can go from basically nothing, small rockets blowing up on the pad to a man on the moon in 8 years ..........but it will take 7-9 years to START drilling, 9 years to START building a new reactor???? START not finish!

What is wrong with us, have we forgot how to get things done?

I sort of think we DESERVE $4.00 gas possibly even more for being a bunch of putzes that can't change a tire without a 3 year study!
