Whether you agree with Gore or not, he at least has set a timetable and has a goal (to be energy dependent in the same time-frame it took us to put a man on the Moon).
Whereas Bush (and his minion's)...................................doesn' t even have a clue.
he at least has set a timetable and has a goal (to be energy dependent in the same time-frame it took us to put a man on the Moon).
Gore is neither a scientist, engineer or a competent policy maker. He is a self-seeker driven purely by money.
Not by his for the environment or by a strong desire to make America energy independent.
He is a Hedge-Fund manager and his Hedge-Fund (generation investments) is based in London.
You can bore everyone to tears touting the company line about Capitalism and all that but when one is driven purely by money the right things don't happen.
Take Ethanol for instance. It doesn't get America any closer to being energy independent, it harms the environment, causes people to starve, and does not reduce carbon emissions but it sure makes $money$ for those involved in it's manufacture and sale.

Come on everybody repeat after me. My name is ..... and I am addicted to oil.
Comparing us all to crack addicts because we need to drive to work... That's just great! What a stupid analogy.
There is NO legitimate reason to be on crack. I am using fuel to get myself and my equipment to work a very legitmate undertaking. Food would be a better analogy! While we don't need crack to survive, we all need food, it is a legitimate thing. Some need more than others. Some waste food others don't. But does the fact that you need to eat make you an addict? I am so sick and tired of being made to feel guilty for just doing what I need to do!
From the article-
"When a person is addicted to crack cocaine, his problem is not that the price of crack is going up. His problem is what that crack addiction is doing to his whole body."
Let me apply my analogy-
"When a person needs to eat in order to survive, his problem is not that the price of food is going up. His problem is what food is doing to his whole body."
Doesn't sound reasonable when you are comparing apples to apples.

Or part of the problem. What possible good does that serve other than adding fuel to the fire which is only adding to the problem.

Because when the king is NAKED and SELF DECEIVED, and all his royal official @$$ kissing dolts applaud him for his fine clothes and insist that his peasant subjects do the same, then the entire kingdom goes to hell in a hand basket.
Did you really think "The Emperor's New Clothes" was written strictly as a fantasy for children based on wild imaginations? If so, you better check world history and find out what has happened to ever "world power" that allowed the village idiot to become king so the shrewed could control the peasants by manipulating their moron ruler.
Until the people understand that concept that even a 5 year old should be able to grasp, we are headed for the same fate as those nations that used to run the world.

All the enviromental wachos, socialists, anti-defense peacenics, anti-Bush administration, anti-capitalist, leftists, so-called liberals and progresssives, and most members of the New York Times editorial board agree with you. Al Gore as your hero? Get serious.
All the alternative energy sources need to be pursued. Oil shale is probably an excellent source for the future. They're building windmills all around me as fast as they can. But right now we need to bring more oil wells on line to increase supply.
"Drill here. Drill now!"
Yes, I have an oil and natural gas well "in my back yard", and I can see several others out the front door on the ranch across the highway. I wish I had more. They make almost zero noise as they pump. A couple of times a week a man called a "pumper" drives a half-ton pickup out there to check on it. What's not to like?
All I had to read, was that Thomas Friedman though AlGore had some Good Ideas,to dismiss this Article outright.

I thought Frieman's book.......The world is flat.........was dead on.
His feeling that..........."in order to fight the quiet crisis of a flattening world the United States work force should keep updating its work skills. Making the work force more adaptable Friedman argues will keep it more employable. Friedman also believes there should be more inspiration for youth to be scientists, engineers, and mathematicians due to a decrease in percentage of these ingrown professionals from America." is absolutely correct IMO.
In fact, using the observation's in his book have helped my investment portfolio tremendously.

Oh, come on Smokey! I know it's early in the morning and things are bound to stick in your craw at this our, but really, the right is as bad as the left. In the REAL world (not in theoretical political science), their extremes are identical and good for nobody but those in office: They are both about money and control, period. The current "conservatives" in office have increased government and spending more than ANY batch of liberals in the history of this nation. Just as bad, the current crop of liberals are for the most part, nothing but dogs on GOP leashes. That's one of the reasons we're in the mess we're in. Our lawmakers are a bunch of con artists, sociopaths and convicted felons, regardless of party affiliation and that's why they aren't getting anything accomplished.

I agree- it needs to be a national priority like no other- except purging us of the poison of the Federal Reserve.

I'm a hypocrite- seismic testing was done last fall 300 feet in front of my Alaska cabin. I don't want an oil rig blocking my view. However, I'm ok with them slant drilling from the pad 1/4 mile away.

Diversifying my credentials has helped me tremendously- however, I'm in a very tiny minority who has been helped by that. In the last 20 years, I've heard the cry to broaden ones capabilities, seen many go to school for MBA's and other sheep skins and vocational certificates, and the end result is they still got laid off from their high paying jobs because management offloaded to foreign countries where they could get dirt cheap labor. Was that smart on management's part? IMHO, NO WAY. I work in Quality Assurance, and I'll tell you, the "cheap, foreign labor" does NOT offset the costs incurred with angry customers when they receive crappy quality items, and it certainly does NOT included the costs absorbed by the companies for late deliveries. What do you suppose it's costing Airbus for late deliveries on the A-380? Billions. How about how much it's costing (I work there, can't say the name), for late deliveries of their new airplane? Who knows, but between the two, billions in late penalties and billions in bailouts for sub-standard vendors, I would guess- Perhaps hundreds of airplanes' profit margin down the drain because of offloading to companies that were NOT prepared to handle the pressure of quality, cost and delivery schedule. Many of the tier 2 and 3 companies build parts for BOTH, and aren't on schedule for either. Now translate that into lost passenger revenue. Billions and Billions of dollars lost in only a couple years, plus billions wasted on excess fuel costs to fly older, less efficient planes, plus billions lost into thin air because of loss of investor confidence. The biggest offset to the trade deficit in this nation is AIRCRAFT SALES. It's no joke, no laughing matter. For the last 20 to 30 years, this nation has disgraced itself in the way it's treated it's workforce- the result is it has gutted itself, offloaded itself, given away technology and jobs, spent our way into debt that amounts to over $400k per family on the national debt alone (plus personal debt), and for what? So "free enterprise" and "investors" (most of whom aren't even Americans) can do everything they can to make short term profits at the expense of the future of the nation. For God's sake, y'all, we've got more oil than the entire middle east, and zero motivation by our government to extract it from the ground. Conservatives and Liberals alike are GUILTY of creating this mess and worse- allowing it to continue. The fact is, WE THE SHEEPLE are NOT going to get it changed with the current crop of thieves in office.
