only 45,000 miles on it, also has an allison auto trans. century 21 foot steel car carrier bed. running thru town on flat roads it feels peppy but go up a hill unloaded and the truck slows down to a snails pace. put a car on it and its substantially worse. are these cat c7 just plain gutless or should i look for a problem????

I'm no mechanic. but an F-650 owner. Does it simply loose power, or does it sputter and run erratically?
I've been having an issue with our 2001 F-650 since it was 2 yrs old. I'm thinking it may be attributed to defective fuel tanks, which is blocking fuel flow.
doesnt sputter, runs smooth just no power up any type of hills

Has this always been a slug or has this just happened? What gears are you running on this truck? What is the GCRW of the whole package? What is the rating on your engine?
if you start it up n drive it right away, it sputters, but if you let it warm up 4 a few minutes, no sputtering. it has always been a slug. the weight of the truck empty is approx. 13,500 lbs. the gvw is 26,000. it doesnt matter if it is loaded or not, but is even slower with a car loaded on it. cat C7 210hp engine with allison automatic trans.

Injection Actuation Control would be my guess but I would have to hook up the laptop with Cat ET on it to run some test. It should still be under some warrenty. I would take it in and let them run the test for that and do a cylinder cut out test. Also the HUEI pump may be giving you some problems.
thanks for your help. i called both the ford dealer and the caterpillar dealer. warranty only up to 3 yrs or 36k miles. they want 125 per hr/ 2 hr minimum to diagnose. i'll just drive it til something else goes bad.

so i was driving and when i stopped, the "service engine soon" light flashed rapidly for about 15 seconds. all guages looked ok, no weird sounds, fluid leaks or loss of power, other than normal. i took it to the caterpillar dealership for diagnosis. i called them for an update and they said so far no issues were reaching out and grabbing their attention. thay will do more diagnosis tomorrow. i will post results whan i hear from them. stay tuned.....

NEVER take your truck or equipment to Peterson CAT in san leandro,ca!!! i dropped off on monday afternoon, they had my truck for 5 days, i left several voice messages on tuesday with no call backs, finally got the service manager after several calls on wednesday, explained the issues with the truck as well as the lack of communication with the shop, he said they are having employee issues and will run some more tests, i called on friday, they say truck was done thursday, said they called me (they didn't). i spoke to a foreman(supposedly) that said they tested injector actuation control, HEUI test, dyno tested, no codes showed up, nothing wrong with truck. then they wanted $750 for diagnostic!!!!! needless to say, i went and got my truck without paying and am currently waiting for a call to see if they want me to pay my bill. i'm not gonna give them 750 thats for sure!!!

UPDATE: ordered a Diablosport extreme power puck for the ol' F6fitty!!! i really hope the claims they make are at least 1/2 of what they say n i'll be happy!!!! we shall see!! i will report back after it gets installed...stay tuned.........

Hard saying. i never payed any attention! i have never been one to bother with that stuff. when i have tried i alway for get to reset my trip or figure it out be for i take of from the pump. but i would think it would help MPG due to more power= less down shifting. i had 210HP from the factory with a 7 speed. the EDGE was worth the money just in the extra power. it wasn't a through you back in the seat difference but it did wake the truck up!
