F-650 A/c ???

i have a 2000 f-650 with a 5.9 cummins and 5 speed allison. today it was pretty hot and my transmission hit 195. it normally runs 165-180. well today it hit 195 and the air conditioning quit working. when the transmission cooled to 180, the a/c starting working again. is it a coincidence, or does ford program the trucks to turn accessories off when temperatures reach certain limits? the water temp never changed, in fact, the truck runs on the cool side compared to my 1999 f-350. i would guess 15 degree difference. has anybody experienced this problem, or know the facts of ford programming?

that sounds like coincidense to me the only thing i could think of is the fan kicked in and your condensor was taking on engine heat in turn not making your a/c as cold

F-650 A/c

I just purchased a 2008 F-650 with a 6.7 cummins a few weeks ago and the same thing happened to me on a very hot day (100 degree day). It was working fine, then later in the day (hotest part of the day) it did not cool the air, and then as the outside temp started to cool down, it started to work again. There was no load on the engine, I was just cruising. The only thing I can think of is the A/C freon is not fully charged, but that is just a guess! Let me know if you figure it out, because it will not be that hot again till next year!

my problem was the clutch assembly. the bearing in the hub failed. i discovered it while doing maintenance. the pulley was wobbling around. for me, the hot day was actually a coincidence. guessing the hot day created more demand on the clutch creating more heat in itself. thus the failure, then working later down the road after the assembly cooled down and worked again.

i think your problem would be a weak charge in the system. hard to believe it could be worn parts. you could possibly have a leak in the system. another option could be a contaminated system where the metering valve gets plugged up.
