Ford 650/750 Medium DutiesTechnical discussion of the new Ford Super Duty 650 and 750 series trucks with Power Stroke, Cummins, or Caterpillar engines.
i have a 210 w edge chip! i think edge claims 65 hp i don't know if its that much but it did make a good difference! i toke my truck to my cat dealer and the told me i could not turn my motor up to a 330 hp! makes no sense to me! did your dealer tell you they could? and how much are they saying it will cost?
i just read in the archives that the high hp motors have different pistons and compression ratio so high hp would not be achievable! you'll just have to by a chip!
Is your 300 rated 800 or 860 ftlbs of Torque? If it is @800 pulling power would be slightly better with a 300 or 330/860tq rating...(if the trans is rated for it) depending on driveline efficiency the 330 would give you 15-27 more wheel HP...sometimes when we rerate from 300 to 330 the factory password system requires written verification from the chassis manufacturer that the cooling system is sufficient...
The only differance in the 330 hp is the programing and the injectors. thats it. You can no re-rate your 210 to a 330 because 330 is only used in special applications being fire truck, off-road truck and RV
There are differnet turbo's, different injectors, different fan pulley, different damper if on most 3126 Engings.....lots of parts are the same, wonder why? It costs less to make one part in a great quality and then you just have one that works with all power ratings.....works pretty well for the midsized diesels.
If this gets too much of a pain I will just leave so please let me help you when I want to.....either way.
This will be an example of one way this can go but please don't go and but your local shop and tell them how to do it....if they know how rock on but if you the customer has to tell the mechanic how to do it, they probably shouldn't be doing the hop up for you without support from CAT.
-3126B 210hp 505tq
--swap ECU file and can come up to 230hp 560tq
--swap injectors and turbo up to 330hp 800tq
--swap ECU file to RV/Emergency 330hp 860tq 2400RPM instead of 2200RPM
The pistons/block/head all the same.
However it does get strange in other ways also. Any thing in a Ford that is less than 250HP factory rated can not be turned higher than 250hp because of the weaked damper that can cause your crankshaft to break. This is done because of the narrow front motor mounts in the fords and the lack of clearance for a good damper.
Another issue is the fan pulley is changed because the more demand for cooling, so they use a larger dia pulley for the fan with higher HP.
Please bear in mind that none of this is going to fit all the way across the board.
Figure the worst part about swaping the ECU files is that CAT will not release the file unless that regestration for that engine was an Emergency Vehicle or RV. So if the dealer won't do it there is lots of reasons why.
So if i have the 200 hp engine i can only go to 250 hp ? If so what is the difference in the 200 hp and the 250 hp engine ? Is it just a larger turbo and injectors ? Does a programmer help at all ? I have a 04 650 and would love to go up hill at a decent speed when towing.
Alot of the rerate depends on the hard parts.....but I have rerated lower Hp trucks to higher Hp at customers risk....just reflashed my on 650 which was factory 300/800 to 350/860 rv file and helped a little...but took muffler off and it lost alot of response :-(

Does that mean its bad to remove muffler or swap out that huge muffler for something that flows more ???
