Talking F650 Pick-Up w/ 5th Wheel?

I'm looking at getting a 5th wheel toy hauler for my Jeep (35-40' range) and a truck to pull it with. With the weight of the loaded trailer, I figure a F650 would be perfect. I really like the pickup conversions with the full height beds, I hate the hauler beds.

If I flip the axles on a trailer, would I have problems towing a 5er and clearing the 72" tall bed rails? I've heard of people towing with large lifted Super Dutys, but I'm still not sure.

Also, I got a DOT inspection and a few tickets for towing a small enclosed trailer with my personal Jeep Wrangler last week, I'd imagine this truck will attract even more cops trying to write bogus tickets. If I tow the RV with this truck, would I have to abide by the DOT/CMV/CDL regulations or not, since it is personal use?

Finally, would a single rear wheel truck be alright, or should I stick with a dually?

Thanks in advance for the help, this is the first time I have considered buying a medium duty truck.

The answer is yes....but you will need a custom Hauler type low profile bed.

You can either have someone make you one or buy one from multiple different companies that customize F650s.

Here's one.
Ford f650, F650, Ford F650 Hauler, Aquasunmotorsports.com

Or you can weld one up out of square steel tube and put diamond plate on top like I did.

My F650 does double duty. I made my own bed to haul our 5th wheel camper. I wanted it light so I could take it on and off if/when i wanted to and then put my F350 dually bed on it for looks the rest of the year.

Here are some pics of my truck.

This is what my F650 looks like the rest of the year!

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

iJeep......

I re-read your post.

Yes you will have to have a hauler bed. You CAN NOT pull a 5th wheel with the F350 type dually beds on an F650...It is just way too tall.

The tallest truck that I was able to tow my 5th wheel with was my old 2004 F350 single rear wheel. It had 35" E rated tires, air bags, full Bank Big Hoss kit, and Donahoe Racing 4.5" Lift Kit.

Here's a picture of my old truck.

It towed pretty good, but It doesnt even compare to an F650 with Cat C7.

Thanks,
SoutherHick
