295/75/16 "D" vs. 265/75/16 "E" - Need help with load ranges

Right now I'm running General Grabber AT2s (265/75/16E) on my SRW F-350 and I'm very happy with them. They're almost completely worn out and I want to go with the same tire in a larger size. The AT2s in a 295/75/16D are about 33.4" tall, which is what I want, but they only come in a "D" load range. I don't really tow much and when I do it's just a utility trailer-not a huge 5th wheel. However, I haul a lot of firewood and its not hard to load up a truck bed with 4000lbs of green wood.

Both tires have a load rating of 3,415lbs, but the max pressure for the Ds is 65 psi as opposed to 80 psi for the Es. From what I've read the Ds will give me more "squirm" because the sidewalls aren't as stiff and the pressure isn't as high-does that matter as much when you're only hauling heavy in the bed as opposed to a 10K lb trailer?

the tires will carry the same load even though they have a differnt ply rating. the load is 3417 per tire. the only down fall is that the tire is too wide if your running stock wheels. so you might end up with wear problems like cupping. there is two things you can do buy a wider wheel or by them from a tire shop that has lifetime service (rotations, balancing) for free. depending on where you live Discount Tire Co or America's Tire Co gives that to their customers.

How wide are your rims now?? I am thinking that the 295 or even a 285 would look nicer, handle and ride nicer then the 265s (imo) and you might get a bit better mileage too...(pending how you drive)...Your stock rims should handle that as well the tires are (carry capacity) the same so no worries there...and if you had the budget for wider rims then great...I would also check out some 285s too...

Before I upgraded to 18" rims and tires I put a set of 295 Toyos on my stock Lariat rims. It was a constant problem trying to find the right air pressure to run in order to get them to wear evenly. I found that the 295's tended to balloon the tread out and wear more in the center. When I dropped the psi down to widen the footprint, mileage and handling were affected. If I were in that position again, I would go no larger than a 285 which is a better match for the narrow bead on the stock rims and it will have the benefit of putting your speedometer/odometer dead on. You have to have your speedometer recalibrated for the 33" tires too.
FWIW, Bridgestone just came out with a Load Range E Dueler in 285
