I drove past Broadway Ford in St. Louis, MO today and low and behold there was the famous (?) Ford Powerstroke fifth wheel trailer! Inside was a 6.0 and a 7.3 crosscut for display, the history of Ford trucks, pictures of trucks, displays of air filters 6.0 vs. 7.3, along with glow plug and airfilter comparisons. (Shwing!) There were also 2 engineers from the Powerstroke Team. I asked if 05 was the last year for the Excursion and they both looked at each other as if to be surprised and then said in stereo "NO". They claimed the 6.0 "saved" the Excursion and that Ford was going to continue production of our beautys.
I also told them that I was happy with the new oil filter location but did not like having to lay on my back under the drivers door to drain the seperator. Kind of 1 forward and 1 back deal. He agreed and said that there was an aftermarket drain**** that I could get so atleast I would not have to lay on my back AND have to use a 6mm allen wrench.
Anyway the experience was great overall and they had free hotdogs, soda, Powerstroke decals, pens, hats, keychains and can coolers.
Can't beat that!

So where did he say you could get this aftermarket drain****? I haven't even looked at mine yet (just hit 8000 miles) but I'm sure one day I'll actually need to drain it.

The engineer said that Ford did not offer it but they should, and just that there was an aftermarket available. On my old 7.3s I drained it every 5000 miles. I will have to look up what the new 6.0 recommends as I am approaching 6k.

I wonder how they would explain the fact that MY 2004 X production is the lowest ever?

I think its because its pretty much paid off (R&D, tooling) and its such a high profit truck ($10,000?). Even though they say the Extended Expedition isn't the replacement its not out until 06-07 so maybe they are going to wait until then.

I would guess dealers don't want V10 Excursions on their lots so it's only the 6.0 Excursions that they are ordering and that would cut the production quite a bit.

How is it that the 6.0 "saved" the eXcursion? Power? Mileage? How are most X's ordered? V10's seem to be very plentiful while the PSD's are more rare (7.3 or 6.0).

That could easily be because the people who buy PSD's keep them. The rental industry unloads the V8 gassers. The order guide I saw awhile ago seemed to expect 60% of the Excursions to be PSD for dealers.

Wow, that is really cool.
I like the older info too...any idea where to download a 2002 Excursion brochure?
I'm starting to think that an '02 ltd is what I need to focus on, it seems to have the packaging and stock power than I want. I drove one the other night (have driven '02 & '01 xlt's, and '00 & '02 ltd's) and it was nice. 11 sec 0-60, vs 14 sec for the other 3 I've driven. The only downside was it had 74K miles.
