We have had 285 Goodyear Wrangler MTR's on our rigs for years. Got over 40,000 on mine at this point and will be getting the same shoes again.

Since the Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO in 285-D is only 3% below the rating of a set of E's and both are significantly above the GVWR/GCWR of the vehicle, I don't understand why it has to be an E rating.

For pure load ability, it does not have to be an E. The D's have softer sidewalls, and that leads to less stability but a softer ride. Like most of life, it's a compromise.

Nitto makes that size and wt. code and can be purchased for $129.00 w/no shipping from National tire and wheel.
Check it out.

The Nitto LT285/75R16's only come in D rating. The only E rated tire I seen from Nitto is the LT265/75R16E's. The only LT285/75R16E's I seen are the BFG AT Ko's,Toyo M-55's and Interco TrXus Mud Terrain's.
our x had been stock 265's, then recall put 265 e range on, then went to 305 d range.....bigger tire....but ride was "loose", i attribute to less ply on side walls, went back to 265e for firmer ride,....very close to a new set of shoes too,....been reading reviews and the 285 75r16e seems like a great choice if staying with stock rims. any non-believers?

Changing from 265 to 285 has the effect of changing your gear ratio. Going to 285's, your effective ration will change from 3.73 to 3.55. If you tow heavy loads like I do, you will notice a difference. Just something to keep in mind. I still run 265's and have change to 4.10 gears. Love towing with the 4.10 gears.
