Re: ABS Light
In April some friends and I drove my 2000 X from Wyoming to Orlando, FL for the NRA meeting/convention. Upon our arrival the “ABS” light came on. We had just driving through a bunch of rain and some serious standing water so I figured it was just water in somewhere it shouldn’t be. The next morning, no light. That evening, “ABS” light on. The “ABS” light flickered on and off over the next three days. When I fired up the X for the trip home the “ABS” light came on and stayed on. About the time we hit Tennessee the speedometer started dying intermittently and then quit completely when we hit Kentucky. I checked the codes using my SCMT as a code scanner. Two codes were stored. One code was for an “ABS” computer fault and the second was for a malfunctioning speed sensor. We drove the remainder of the trip with my GPS propped up against the windshield to use as a speedometer. About Kansas City the “Overdrive” light started flashing. Despite the apparent computer systems failures, the X kept right on running all the way back to Casper, WY. I tried to get a speed sensor from the auto parts stores, but no luck. So, off to the Ford dealer. The problem was only one failed component. The “ABS” computer. It seems that most everything feeds into the “ABS” computer. The computer cost $530.00. The total repair bill came to $800 with diagnostic time, repair time, and shipping for the darn part. It seems that the closest “ABS” computer was in Memphis, TN. I need the part ASAP so I paid an extra $65 for overnight freight.
