ABS light comes on

my ABS light (anti-lock brake system) comes on and usually right before the brakes kind of rumble slightly or slip a little like it does if your comming to a quick stop. it goes outwhen you shut vehicle off(resets itself i guess.) but comes back on frequently. this is a 2000 X 2wd. are there any tsb's or recall info.

Re: ABS light comes on

I had the same problem on my 2000 2wd. After posting the problem on the forum and getting several very good suggestions I did the following:

Cleaned the front ABS sensors - just turn the wheel to full stop and you can reach the sensor, remove the sensor, clean and reinstall. Turn wheel to full stop in the other direction to do the other side.

Replace VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor, it is located on the third member on the L/H (drivers) side, it takes about 10 minutes after you have the X jacked and supported. The sensor costs about $20.00. I tried to clean this sensor, but it didn't work.

Good Luck

Re: ABS light comes on

i used a scan tool and pulled code p 0603( which is powertrain or internal control module KAM test error) any other suggestions the stealership said more than likely it is the anti-lock control module. im going to try and check the vss sensor and the 2 front brake sensors tommorrow when im off. also i just installed a program w/ my superchips tuner the day before so is maybe this code have something to do w/ the new program installed and not have a thing to do w/ my abs light.

Re: ABS light comes on

Got my answer on the KAM error. The mechanic fixing the speedo problem says that the KAM error is tripped anytime the computer is tampered with by a performance chip. In this case the chip is the SCMT. He confirmed that it is 'harmless' and can be generally ignored.

My abs light is coming on and blinking from time to time and they are telling me it is the whole module that has to be replaced.
