I was looking at replacing the exhaust on my X. I had a dealer/installer tell me he could install a Dynomax system (19332) pretty cheaply (about $300). Another dealer/installer told me the Dynomax won't fit. Something about the pipes and hangers are completely differnt on the X and the Superduty.
Has anyone installed this system? Any recommendations for something comparable at a similar price?
Truck exhausts will NOT fit the X. The problem is that nice 45 gal fuel tank that the X has where the spare tire goes. You have to get an X specific exhaust system.
Hey there JM,
I too looked at exhaust systems for the Excursion here over a good period of time and come down to that a Walker BTM would perform as well or better than a $400 system, less the cost of installation.
I'm completely satisfied with our choice performance and cost wise $95 including installation.
You're more than welcome to swing by the NTPSA Meet at the Grand Opening of Suspension Dynamics Saturday Feb 15th to check out the Walker and various other exhaust systems that fellow owners/members have on their Excursions/Super Duties.

Funny this came up tonight, I just bought a SCMT 1705 today and then my thoughts went to the next step, EXHAUST.
I have been wondering for a while why I could not Find/buy a non stainless system with the 24" MagnaFlow that others seem to like for it's sound quality and lack of objectionable noise. It seemed the only option was stainless.
Not any more, Dennis at ITP has a B.Y.O. exhaust with the MagnaFlow as an option! What a concept, just what I wanted. He even has a choice of tips or none. Prices start at $400 with 3.5 or 4" down pipe, add $50 for the MagnaFlow and more for your choice of tip.
Any one see an advantage to upgrading to the Stainless Muffler with Aluminized pipes? The difference on the "Mufflers Only" page is only $35 so it seems it could be swapped in for the aluminized muffler.
Any one know what rots out first, the pipes or the Muffler? Chances are I will not keep it that long anyway but for $35 it is cheap insurance if the muffler rots out first.

I am considering the BYO exhaust at ITP as well. I am running a 4" BTM muffler now (got free) but do not like the drone. I have run aluminized systems on my last 2 Dodge's and have had no problems.
Hard to beat that price, and ITP's service is tops.

Bruce - Tell me it is not so. Get rid of the Excursion or the exhaust. I really love my Excursion.

For you DFW guys, Kinney's Muffler in Bedford has magnaflow and Flo-pro mufflers for the X, and has the correct X 4" system parts (tail pipe mainly) to build a good setup. A little pricey (labor is included) but the workmanship is 1st rate - I've had a few cars done there. Walking in there will make your jaw drop, as he has a huge showroom full of shiny exhaust parts on display, including diesel systems and tips.
They replaced my BTM with a magnaflow and 4"tailpipe section for around $350 installed, figurd I'd add the downpipe later. The BTM was actually quieter, but had more flutter/whistle. I like the rumble of the magnaflow, but it is a tad loud - no flutter though (this is the 24" version).

I too have been studying our options on exhaust. The stated problem of the 45 gallon center mounted tank is correct. That is why an "X" specific exhaust system is much better. There are ways to work around this problem with most of the truck kits, but it requires some fab/welding changes to the brackets. GOS Racing has a kit I have been thinking about at a good price, shipping included. It's a Western Diesel kit, has anyone experienced this system?
For some of the Houston local people, there is a shop in Huffman that did a 4" turbo back system on a friends truck and it is first class, with all mandrel bent pipes. It isn't much different pricewise than the kits, but the price is installed.

Here's my thoughts after researching it.
My X stock has a 3.5" pipe exiting the muffler. I have a guy in Arlington that has the muffler from a BD kit, he's going to replace the stock with that and a new 3.5" down pipe for under $200. It's sounds like the best plan and price.
Since I'm not a heavy hauler, and it's not modified to 100+hp, that should open things up nicely.
Sounds like a sweet deal. I'd go for it. Even if you do haul something heavy, that will perform nicely for you. The only reason I'm thinking of going 4" all the way is that I might as well, since the cost isn't any different. If I had a deal like you have, i'd do it in a heartbeat.
For those in the DFW area, it may be a reality. When I talk to him today, I'll ask if he can offer something like that to others. He just happens to have the muffler from an install that was just a straight thru. He was looking to see what he can get in just a downpipe.
Not any time soon but do the math. Got it in Oct of 2001 it has over 45K on it so what will come first a rusted muffler or 250K?
