Alarm and Remote Start?

After the second break in less than 8 months I am looking for the best alarm with remote start. Please tell me which one you like and why. Thanks, Tom

Re: Alarm and Remote Start?

I have the Viper 550 on both trucks. I think the newer model is the 795 or something like that. Mine are a couple of years old now. The alarm is like most others and a big thing to shop for is the warranty. Lifetime nationwide on Viper. The sirens could be louder but I have addressed that problem myself. The remote start is great. I am sure it gets warm in TN but it gets feeking hot here in S. Texas. In the summer just leave the A/C on when you get out and it will be cooling next time you use the remote start. It helps on the cold mornings also. Mine is able to sense the WTS light, the engine cranks after the light goes out. I think on the '02 and newer ones they have to resort to a timer, something about the WTS light being part of a printed circuit board or something like that. Mine also has the pit stop feature. This allows you to set that mode, turn off the ignition and remove the keys, set the alarm and leave the truck running for what ever time you program. If someone opens the door the alarm goes off and if they hit the brake pedal to come out of park the truck dies. Works great as a turbo timer also. Shop around and get one soon! Dam thieves!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Alarm and Remote Start?

I have the CompuStar Remote on both of my trucks, and have had them on the last 4 vehicles I've owned. In my opinion they are superior to all the rest. They seldom break or cause trouble, as long as you keep working batteries in the remote [embarassed grin].

I don't sell them or have any association with the company, etc...

Re: Alarm and Remote Start?

I ordered the Viper 791VX with remote start today. They are going to install it next Monday. If any one has any suggestion about this system for the installer please let me know.

Re: Alarm and Remote Start?

I second the Compustar suggestion. I have installed starters/alarms for the past 8 years and have worked with almost every product out there. The compustar is far and away better than the rest. The best part is the range: 5000 feet or better. They are also two-way units, meaning if someone breaks in to your vehicle, the vehicle will page the remote and tell you. I have compustars in all of my personal vehicles. I also have no affiliation with compustar nor do I sell them anymore (recently retired from that industry).

hope this helps.

Re: Alarm and Remote Start?

What about installation of these alarms? Are any of them plug and play? How about a factory one? I hate the idea of myself or others cutting into factory wiring harnesses.
