Allow me to introduce myself

My name's Karl, nice to meet you all. i own a '98 Lincoln Navigator 4x4 and wish to upgrade to a diesel Excursion because my wife's Diesel is so greaT. Any suggestions, reccomendations about the forum or the PSD Excursion? I am also considering half heartedly the Duramax Diesel Suburban/Yukon XL, but I like the Excursion much better.

PS- I know you're all dying for my name

Re: Allow me to introduce myself

Karl First welcome to the forum I think yo will enjoy and learn a lot about the operation and quirks ofv our tanks. you will enjoy also as most of us do so jump aroun to some of the other sections and get into the fray.

I have been driving diesel pickups since 1980. If there is any way I will not go back to a gasser ever .

I had a 99PSD sc before I got the X I always put a fiberflass cap on them and I have wanted a Surburbn type vehicle anyway. I really do love this thing. It is comfortable and you can put dang near anything of reasonable size in it. If you read through this section you will find out a lot. Ford like all manufactores has shortcommings. The major one I feel is the suspension on them. I like a heavier one than what we get.I do not like excess body lean in corners. I would sugguest you test drive a few or rent one to see how it fits you. You may try between 4x4 and 2 wheel drive.

You are out of luck at present on the DURAMAX in the GM products at present and I do not think with their present floor pan you could get the ALLISON auto tranny. No way will the present tranny hold up to the HP and torque. Also until the MAX is in the real worls for a couple of years with the aluminium heads , it is a wait and see for me. What with having a shorter stroke, it has to rev higher to get the HP and torque, so longivity is something else to wait and see how it works out..

Don't get me wrong I really dohope it is a super package, because the other two will have to meet a new benchmark. That would make it a win win for all. Yeah that sound good
I'll back out and turn over to others.

Take care

Re: Allow me to introduce myself

HI Karl Welcome to the site. I have a 01 EX LTD and first Diesel. "Happy as a clam in mud." If you read this site you will find a wealth of infromation. Never will you find more helpful people and satisfied owners. This is my first Ford. I ordered a 01 Yukon XL 2500 2x4 got yanked around by GM on production dates, allications, etc. Glade I looked around before I bought. Ford has treated me far better than GM. I feel the quaility is better, fit @ feel. Interior much nicer, paint better. But there is a few things that can be upgraded for handling. If you can buy it by April 2 you can get in on that .9% you are looking at $547 total finance charges for 3 years. I Got my EX loaded EX LTD 4x4 out the door just under $40k including the $1500 cash back. Buy leaving the $40k in the bank it should realize about $6 k in interest in 3 yrs. Hope this helps, Happy in my EX

Re: Allow me to introduce myself

I had a 1999 expedition that I traded for a PSD excursion. They are 2 totally different autos. I must say I was nervous about the diesel thing but this form makes me feel at ease. The first thing is the MPG increase and the second is the power!! Chip it if you get one! Third is knowing the motor will out last the truck compared to the 5.4 POS Is a great feeling.
Before I bought the excursion I drove the Duramax in a pickup “boy am I going to get flamed on this comment” the engine and trans is real sweet coupled with the independent front end I love it. But it is also 40k truck not very loaded and the dealers do not move on price! My decision would have got interesting if GM offered it in the burb.
But lets look at the facts I picked up a 01 PSD X limited for just under 41k and great financing as well. The truck is great and I feel a excellent value! But I do miss the sunroof and auto temp control.
