Almost wrecked my Ex today! Be careful with black ice!

Was driving my Excursion today on a single lane country highway in Central Washington, outside temp was reading 37. I was going about 60MPH, slightly raining. A semi was traveling the other direction and as soon as it passed me, the suction of the thing broke my rear end loose, went "oh sh*t!" and gently countersteered, it fished for a bit and finally settled. Only then did I notice that the road had patches of ice here and there. This could have turned out real ugly!

Anyone who drives in colder weather, be careful!

Re: Almost wrecked my Ex today! Be careful with black ice!

I hate black ice... I live on the west side and on cold nights all the bridges are covered. I once saw it so slick that it took an hour and 45 minutes to drive 2 miles, yet you couldn't see it until you were on it.

Does black ice exist outside of Washington? I've heard that it seldom ef ever does and would like to know if that is just myth-

Re: Almost wrecked my Ex today! Be careful with black ice!

Plenty here in Michigan. Just had the ex smashed up after a fellow hit me last saturday, left his truck and fled on foot. Wasn't black ice at the time, but temps 31 with a wintry mix. Totalled my trailer; turns out my insurance company (Allstate - Your in good hands) says that since I didn't have a seperate policy on this little 6x12 enclosed, that even with it hitched to my vehicle my auto policy would not cover it. Gots me a hurdle to conquer.

Thanks for dispelling that urban legend.
Bummer about the hit and run.

Just a thought. If you have homeowners or renters insurance you might want to check your policy. You might be covered for the trailer or it's contents thru that. My truck was broken into a few years back. They stole my custom installed stereo and everything else that was in the truck. My auto policy only covered the stereo because it was mounted in the truck and considered a part of the vehicle. The other stuff ended up being covered by my renters insurance.
Worth looking into anyway.
