The tax rebate check is coming and I pulled out the mod list for the 2000 Excursion. Next on the list - EXHAUST . The question - can I get by with aluminized in Minnesota or should drop the big dollars and go with the stainless steel system?
As you can tell I want to do my part to jumpstart the economy by keeping the money flowing (fueling up this beast alone is just not doing it) .
How long do you figure you'll keep your truck (years/miles)? If you are someone who trades every 4-5 years, then I'd save the money and go aluminized as you won't wear it out. If you are going to shoot for 200-250k and keep it for 10 years then I'd go stainless.
Don't you just hate Salt? They use that crap here in Illinois and it will have surface rust on most vehicles in less than 10 years.
Have a good one,
Dave

I plan to drive it till it drops or the doors rust off. As an example, my wife continues to drive the '92 Lexus LS400 with 180K on it. You think it is expensive to maintain a PSD, just try to get parts for a Lexus cheap. Can't be done. That has a stainless system and there's not a mark on it. I think I am making up my mind .
Thanks
Banks New Monster exhaust for the Excursion is 4' with a 4" down pipe mandrel bent SS system at not much more money than aluminized. Part# 48653. These systems fit and sound great.

Dave - I justed ordered the Banks Monster system with the 4in DP from you last week. I can't wait to get and install it. You had mentioned there were 2 areas that need to be looked at when installing the system on an X.
One was to cut off the upper portion of the plate protecting the passenger side rear shock (done when the Bilstein's went on last week - sure helps the ride). What was the other area - I think it was something about the underside heat shield? Also, do I need to reinstall the stock DP heat shield on the new Banks DP? I have read that some have done it on their SD trucks, but nothing in the X column. Is there anything else I need to have on hand to do the job once the system arrive (clamps, hangers, sawsall, my head examined) and do I reuse the stock turbo to DP clamp?
Thanks for your great service and pricing on the system, although it was over $50 and the wife will still be mad .
The other thing is to check the clearance tot he down pipe and heat shield that is bolted to the frame. It is almost impossible to get this shield out after the DP is installed and its very close to the DP pipe and may become a source of rattle should the DP contact it.
