I returned to my truck in a busy parking lot to find a guy and his wife peering in. Turns out they had an Expedition and an F350 and were thinking of the Excursion for the PSD engine.
Since I wasn't feeling threatened anymore (I think there's a guy gene that drives us to show off our trucks)... I chimed in that my 'X was indeed a PSD and that was key to my purchasing decision.
We both then realized that the truck didn't have a PSD badge. Is this another cost cutting measure. I have my glovebox light, but I'm missing my hood blanket. Now I find I don't have a PSD badge?
No badges. That's the point we have been making since inception.
You can and should order them.
Hood blanket? Insist that they provide you with one.
At the same time order a bug (HOOD )and window deflector from them. It may cost a bit more but if they install you get the 3 year warranty with it. I had my window piece fly off and no questions ..just replaced.

Hrm. Must be the only standard thread I hadn't come across. I'd seen a few people making them, but I had assumed they were upgrades. Heh. Are there PSD badges that are meant to go underneath the current Excursion badge?

Hrnh. Have people had success with hassling them for that? I dislike haggling with people... and would be hate to be wasting the effort.

I've never liked the look of those deflectors at the front of people's hoods. Had them take off the one from my Navigator when I bought it. Do they actually do anything?
A fw people had their dealer add the hood blanket, but many of those cases the dealer didn't know any better. Mine offered to install one, for $142. I paid about $77 delivered to my door and about 10 minutes to install it.
The Super Duty's have Powerstroke badges on the lower, front part of the doors. Some have ordered the same badges and put them on the Ex. in the same place. The Ex has never come with them, I'm sure because of what they thought their target buyer was.

Yes, there are aftermarket badges, but the ones most people buy are the Ford OEM badges from the 250 and 350 series. Just buy two (or three) and put them on the door like a pickup. I put a third on the BACK of my truck, as I figure the people behind me will also want to know that I am driving a "real" Excursion.
Why are you concerned about "haggling" with them? If they want you to buy your next vehicle, they should try to make you happy. And the worse they can say is "No" which is where you are today. The conversation can go something like this, "Listen, I noticed that I don't have a hood blanket on the truck which greatly concerns me. This is a safety feature, and since I bought your most profitable (and expensive) vehicle, I was surprised to see that this unit happened to have it missing. When can I bring the truck back for you to fix this issue?" There is no haggling or accusations whatsoever in that approach.

Yes, they do. The most valuable function is keeping rock chips off the leading edges of your hood. Those can get rust started, especially in areas that use salt in the winter, as the hood and roof are the only panels on the truck that aren't made with galvanized steel.
Keeping the bugs from getting driven into the pain at highway speeds is a plus, too.

Now I've lost that line of reasoning. How can a sound insulation blanket be a safety feature??

As well as sound dampening, supposedly the plastic clips are designed to melt if there's a fire under the hood, allowing the insulator to drop and assist in smoothering it.
That's from a post form a guy in another forum that if I recall, works for the outsource provider of the insulator, Ford or somehow related. If it was eliminated, the fire supression effect must not be great enough to have kept it on the trucks.
I like it for heat protection on the hood. I noticed in foggy/misty weather, I'd get dry hood where all the braces are. With the insulator, the hood stays damp. Makes me believe it's keeping heat on the hood down, and more even.

Remember the badges are different for a 1999 (Front fender), 2000 (Front door), 2001-2003 7.3L Engine (Front door), and the 2003-200? 6.0L Engine (Front door) F250/F350. Find what you like and order. I have the 2001 badges.
