Another slam

A quote from the boston globe. "Ford Excursion, the hulking SUV that, even in diesel form, sucks gasoline or diesel so fast the pump can barely keep up with a running engine." Ain't it great being loved?

Heres the link to the article

Re: Another slam

What I don't understand is, why aren't these jerks jumping all over the Chevy counterpart? Why just the Ford stuff?

Re: Another slam

I feel the same way. Having owned a couple of Suburbans I can attest to their being very fuel thirsty. How about 8-9 miles per gallon pulling any trailer. It's also not a fair comparison for the MPG ratings between the gas and diesel Excursions. We all know who wins that battle.

The Suburbon and it's counterparts have been around so long I think they are for the most part accepted and ignored. It's much easier to target the new kid on the block.

JMHO.

Re: Another slam

I thought the Boston Globe article sounded just a bit biased against the Excursion. Here is the real link to what they were reporting on.

They were using the 5.4 Liter V8 as the comparison.

Where did the comments about the pump versus consumption come it? Green Cars didn't even mention the diesel.

Re: Another slam

I don't know how the rest you feel about these articles that bash the Excursion, but I'm tired of them and responded back to the paper on the linked article you posted. Even when I had a Dodge truck before this Excursion, I always defended the Excursion's size.
Here is a copy of what I wrote the Boston Globe.

Hi. Regarding your recent article "Good, bad, and ugly of fuel efficiency" on different vehicles, I have to strongly dispute the writers comments on the Ford Excursion. The writer states that it is so thirsty that the fuel pumps can hardly keep the engine running. Give me a break. Talk about sensationalistic reporting! I would be very interested in hearing the writers real life experience with the Excursion that the above comment was based on. I currently have an Excursion that is diesel powered - my second diesel powered full size vehicle - and Ican assure you that the fuel economy is better than any gas powered full size truck/suv including the Chevy Suburban which was not mentioned in the article. I would say that 18-19 mpg is hardly "barely keeping up with the fuel pump" as the writer states. Most gas powered full size suv/trucks including the Suburban only get mid-teens at best. And I got those numbers from talking to the drivers of those vehicles - not thin air. And why is it that the likes of this writer also like to pick on the "hulking" size of the Excursion? It is in fact smaller than the full size dually pick up trucks often seen on the roads yet not mentioned. It's within 2 inches in overall length of the last regular cab long bed truck I owned. I have not heard any "hulking" remarks on the size of the many other full size stretch cab/long bed trucks that are longer. Interesting wouldn't you agree.

Re: Another slam

vc,

good job! I for one think it is ridiculous. My father drove nothing but Suburbans. 1500 4x4 and 4x2's are all he drove since 1985. He's had Suburbans that got as low as 12 mpg and some that got as high as 18 mpg. All were gasoline. My mother still drives the one he had when he passed away last year. It is a 2001 1500 4x4 w/5.3L gas. This thing gets about 14 - 16 mpg depending on your driving style.

I think that the Excursion may get a shad worse in fuel mileage for the gas rigs and the 5.4L is IMHO, waaayyy to small of an engine for these things. What I don't like is the fact that they call for Ford to end the "X", due to fuel mpg, yet they never talk about the diesel powered Excursions. My new "X" has barely 1300 miles on it and the fuel mileage is been 12 - 17 mpg. It is breaking in so the fuel mileage is only going to get better.

If they want to compare apples to apples, then they need to do so. This "X" is not that much bigger than a Suburban. If they would look at the two together, they'd see there is not a whole lot of difference between the two in regards to the eco.

Re: Another slam

Ford keeps getting it because they woosied out to the pressure on the original pressure about the X. These AH's that feel to put the heat on because Ford can't stand up to it. Chevy ignores them

Re: Another slam

Good job VC!. I am also tired of these liberal buffoons. I have encountered the same attitude in the streets...penis envy, I say.
They can not think for themselves at all. I always answer with a litany of facts regarding Vans, HD trucks, Cadillacs, etc. No, it doesn't matter. These little marxists want everything banned that doesn't suit their agenda. Just look at the gun issue, same thing. Just because it looks mean must mean that it's more dangerous or worse. They have no clue...well, actually those that propagate this misinformation do. Scare the soccer moms and the do-gooders to vote their way. It's about power.

Re: Another slam

Good job vc! what else can we expect from a bunch of Liberal Douches, thats why I refuse to buy newspapers.I drove a chevy burb turbo diesel and got 1-2 miles less per gallon with 3:42's than I get with my EXCURSION.

I looked at the greencar's website and it denoted the X as a heavy duty truck, which should get it away from the soccer mom classification. The problem is these liberal writers see it as a problem child. They should get their heads out of their ass's and write about all the bull**** weekend trips that people take on jetplanes. But it's the yuppie thing to do,that is a bigger waste of fuel than our TRUCKS.

Hillary Clinton did plenty of bashing herself, but thought nothing of jumping in a plane(or on her gilfrends bones) and wasting fuel.

Over my dead body will they get my guns or my TRUCK! Vote Republican.

Re: Another slam

I would like to see what these guys think we should be driving? We got our EX because we needed the room for our lives. I am 6'4", my brothers are both 6'3" and weigh 230+lbs, they are football players. What other vehicle can fit us, our parents and our luggage when we go on vacation comfortably??? I bet it does't have 4x4 capabilites and the ability to tow a 10,000lb trailer.

If they are jumping all over ford, why the hell aren't they saying anything about Chevy. They don't even offer a diesel in the suburbans anymore. I hope that the Ex lives on for years to come.

Actually the H2 has taken alot of the focus of of the X. That is why I support the H2. The longer it is around and the more yuppies that drive them, the less attention the X gets. I saw a while back a H2 dealer that had been broken into and the H2s had paint dumped all over them. H2 for president! Long live the H2, the best vehicle in the world! ... for distracting those greenies!

I would never personally own one of those fake Hummers. If I want a Hummer I will get an H1 the only real Hummer. I would take an X over an H2 anyday.
