another thread concerning V code front springs and shocks

just got hold of a set of V codes off of a f-250, have read several threads and did searches regarding shocks,

i want to do this swap all in one day so i need to know any info i can,

with the V codes it can raise front end about 2 inches per the threads i have been reading, i am assuming the stock shocks will no longer fit, i need new shocks anyways, and from my reading i can NOT use stock F-250-350 shocks because they mount differently for the front shocks, are the rear shocks the same, i will probably be adding the f350 blocks in the rear to keep the foward rake i have and will also be adding the hellwig sway bar

so my question is, what shocks for the front and rear for the additional 2 inches of lift, what has been the experiance with differnt shocks, they do not neccesarily have to be of the adjustable breed, truck never has been taken off road, mostly highway driving, have a set of 305/70/16 on it now and clearnace not an issue, just looking for a little more stance and better handeling

part #'s would be appreciated, even have seen kits with dual shocks, any input on this

thanks

Re: another thread concerning V code front springs and shocks

I have 'V' codes and F-350 blocks and use factory size shocks.

Re: another thread concerning V code front springs and shocks

I have V code springs and Bilstein shocks but they are the stock height replacements. They fit OK but seems to be just a little short when fully extended (when I was hanging the new springs) the shocks were the limiting factor by about 1/2". But the lifted shocks are too long and you would have to put longer bumpstops on so the shocks wouldn't bottom out. I think there is more of a chance of the longer shocks bottoming out. My V codes settled down alittle. I used to be alittle nose high with a full tank of fuel. Now with a full tank I put a level on my running boards and it is level. I only got about 1 1/2" of lift. But my stock springs were new only had about 10,000 miles on them. IMO I think dual shocks are a waste of money and will ride way to hard. Your stock shocks will work but I would still replace them. When I first put on my Bilstein shocks I thought they road alittle hard but I love them now I think they softened up alittle or I just got use to them. Ken

Re: another thread concerning V code front springs and shocks

I'm ditto with Dentman,as I have V codes,Rancho 9000X shocks and rear F350 blocks also.

The stock shocks will work fine with the V's but for a better riding suspension upgrade them with aftermarket shocks like Rancho's or Bilsteins which are both very good models

The V code springs enhanced the X's handling much better but a rear Hellwig if you don't already have a rear sway bar will put the finishing touch on the handling issue.

Re: another thread concerning V code front springs and shocks

Just so I get this straight, the conversion is simply "v code" springs from the front of F350 and the rear blocks from the same. Add on the Bilstiens or what ever shock you choose and you net about 1 1/2" lift front and rear? I have access to the blocks and springs that are NTO's from a friend of a friends off road shop and think this would work out great if I understand it right.

Re: another thread concerning V code front springs and shocks

The V codes will give you 1.5". The 350 blocks will level it but you may want a little rise out of the back or with a full tank or a trailer you will be draggin a$$. I used an add a leaf for 3" and a 4" block for the rear. The block came from a chevy. I have not seen any settling of the front and it has been 3 months now. Watch the 350 block you get, I gave a pair away to a board member and it ends up these had no taper to them. It looks like long box CC don't have the taper due to length. You can see the taper with your eyes so look close.

Re: another thread concerning V code front springs and shocks

talking to the guy i am getting these springs off of and i am kinda confused, he said they are off of a 2003 F-250, but they had the highest spring rate of 8800 LBS, the door code read VP and by what bruces chart reads there isn't even one there listed at 8800 LBS, i think he may be reading the total GVW rating on truck.. what do you all think... the 2003 springs should fit on my 2000 X correct...i have him looking at the casting number on the spring, if it is a V code it should be a 2C34 number and if it is a 2C3Z it is an x code...

Re: another thread concerning V code front springs and shocks

I go off of what the white VIN decal states the springs are, mine came off of a fresh 2002 F250 and it had "V" for the front set.

The casting numbers are very very inconsistent so I recommend not trusting em.

8800 sounds about right for the F250

Re: another thread concerning V code front springs and shocks

You are correct you have V code front and P code rear
Not sure what a P code is as that info is at the office and I can not find the link to it though I think I have listed it here a while back.
