Any thoughts on this inverter? It is 1500 watts, Xantrex from Costco for $84.99. I also found it on the following site. I was thinking of mounting it under the 2nd row, but how do you hide the wires?
What are you intending to use the inverter for mainly?
The price looks good from Costco and to run the wiring to the battery I'd slit a small hole in the carpet and run it done the drivers side channel to the firewall, others have done other routes but that's the first I'd do.

Thanks for cleaning up the link. I would use the inverter for some tailgating (TV and possibly microwave) along with some back country camping. I do have a pop-up camper with a deep cell battery to keep the lights going in it.

This inverter will probably handle what you are wanting to do. Xantrex is a very good company that manufactures some very high quality stuff. This inverter of theirs at Costco however,is not a sine wave inverter, meaning it is very hard on delicate electronics. Don't run a TV, computer, DVD etc... that you care to much about off of this type inverter, cuz it's life expectancy is greatly reduced. Bottom line - Yes it will work. Don't use your favorite laptop !

Barrett just make sure you don't remove anything off the Harbor Freight & Craftsman lists
I've been checking into inverters and I'm going to get one at some point too. I'd like to add that there are TWO types of sinewave inverter: Modified and Pure. Modified has the tops and bottoms chopped off the sinewaves and does to your sensitive electronics what clipping does to your stereo speakers. Ouch.
Pure sine wave inverters are exactly what the name implies, pure sine wave. That is what you need for SENSITIVE electronics, like laser printers. I don't know what it takes to run a TV or Microwave though.
Pure sine wave inverters are spendy...

That one is a little bigger than the one I've got, but I've had good luck with mine mounted on the flat area in the cargo compartment besides the passenger side window. It takes an extension cord to reach it when using it going down the road, but it's in a pretty much perfect spot for tailgating.
Just my .02

clamgulch, any resources on the web for affordable sinewave inverters? I'd like to upgrade from my weeky weeky 700 watt continuous inverter

I do want to nip this little error in the bud. It's actually the opposite. Intuitively, you'd think that delicate electronics would be sensitive to less-than-perfect sine wave inverts --- it makes sense. However, this is yet another case of intuition being wrong.
Laptops, TV's ... even most radios will be happy with this inverter. These devices actually, internally, operate on DC and the AC to DC power supplies are such that the quality of the inverter is a non-issue. Even desktop computers will tolerate as much as 1/2 second power _interruption_ before having a problem. Occaisionally cheap electronics (mostly radios) will have problems due to the interference of the power's harmonics with the amplifier circuit... but this is rare with modern electronics --- you'll find it mostly with older things. Older electronics tend to have transformers and rectifiers whereas newer electronics tend to have some form of switching power supply (or a combination of transformer and switching supply). Switching supplies actually _prefer_ square-ish wave power.
The things that will have the most problem with square-ish-wave inverters are the simple things --- motors, mostly. They have no electronics to filter the power, so they can react badly. This means blenders, power tools.... even the motor in the microwave (although likely not the electronics) can react badly.
Reacting badly can range from making more noise to turning backwards to not turning at all.
All is not lost, tho. Add a length of extension cord (thicker the better, too). The "capacity" (ability of the copper in the cord to store small amounts of electricity) of the cord "rounds" out the corners of the square waves making them more acceptable. 20 or 30 feet of large guage cord can make even the worst power acceptable to the most picky motors.
