Any use for roof rack crossmembers?

I was going to put them on the curb for the trashmen but I figured I'd check here to see if anyone had found a use for them.

I'm going to buy a Yakima rack and I will never use the OEM crossmembers again.

Maybe they'll fit on another vehicle?

If anybody wants them, they're free.

Re: Any use for roof rack crossmembers?

No use for the crossmembers, other than large paperweights. Did you check out the Thule racks? They work great on the X and clip on and off easier than the Yakimas, IMHO.

Re: Any use for roof rack crossmembers?

Thanks for the tip.

I was planning at looking at both before I buy but I didn't think there was going to be much of a difference other than maybe price.

I'll actually have to get my hands on one now.

Re: Any use for roof rack crossmembers?

AJ's Dad-I would love to have your crossbars. One of mine is messed up. I put them on when I need them and take them off when I do not need them so the paint does not get scratched. Email and I will give you the address. I will pay the shipping.

Thanks,
John

Re: Any use for roof rack crossmembers?

I think they could be used as a "real man's" bat for Stick Ball!

The great thing is, if you don't like the "feel" or "swing" of one...you have another to really smack that ball!

Re: Any use for roof rack crossmembers?

That's a lot of bat for stick ball!!

Actually, I've been in contact with JADPFE and I'm going to try and get them in the mail to him tomorrow.

AJ'sDAD I use mine to beat the haydes out of the little copperheads and I did have a coral snake once, that come up out of the woods around here. Now they do a fine job on them and last a lot longer than a stick .

Re: Any use for roof rack crossmembers?

If any one else wants crossmembers please let me know. Two more pieces of junk floating around the garage-barn I could do without. Usually, I am ruthless in throwing things out but I have just not had the heart to throw out my wife's X's crossbars. She is a packrat bar none so you can imagine the cat fights. Anyone interested, let me know.

Re: Any use for roof rack crossmembers?

hello.

i don't know if it will help or not, but i got ford to buy me some yakima crossbars. i told them about the scratches and they screwed around for about 4 months, but i finally got them.

you bought a *new* truck. paid a lot of money. it is supposed to have a functional roof rack. it sounds like a warranty issue to me.

what they ended up doing was taking pictures of the scratches and sending them to engineering or somewhere.

they are gonna repaint my roof and some other scratches that were on it when i got it as soon as i can do without it for 3 days.

my $.02 and overpriced at that.
bill

added on edit: i also have a set of the stock ones if somebody wants them. email me.

I've got a H&R .410 that does that job quite nicely.

Re: Any use for roof rack crossmembers?

I am planning on taking mine off this weekend.

Is the rubbing on all of the bars or just the middle ones?

Re: Any use for roof rack crossmembers?

AJsDAD

Do I every agree on the shooting them, but I was not joking. I keep one of the bigger ones in the garage and the other by the front door for varmints. If I am outside andrunn across one they are handy.

Now if it is big enough, what I use is my 357 mag. with the CCI pellet shot. I must admit the .410 is supurb every time.

Mind If I ask you a question, Do you know of any comapany that is making a .410 semi - auto? I have looked and asked all over my area. I know years ago they were made.
Thanks and you take care.

Re: Any use for roof rack crossmembers?

I have the Thule racks on my X. They were less expensive but still real good racks. I bought an adventurer box also.
