Anyone had this problem?

Started truck in am at 3 degrees, not plugged in, started and ran fine for about 40 minutes (got a run at work). Came back and left to go home, 2 blocks later truck hesitated a few times then died. Cranks like crazy but won't start.

I noticed my DP tuner switch had no power, so took chip out in case that was problem. After removal, still no start, and now no WTS light.

Ford hasn't found problem yet, but says fuses are blowing and the CPS power/communication is not working. Anyone know what this might be?

Check the #30 fuse. Unplug the fuel heater at the back side of the fuel filter bowl. The #30 fuse powers the PCM, and wait to start light. The fuel heater could be shorted.

Ford called and said it's the fuel heater assembly. $609. Can't seem to find a part matching that online anywhere, but that seems like a lot for that?

Don't let them touch another thing, pay them off and get that truck the heck out of there. Just leave the fuel heater unplugged, replace the fuse and drive away as fast as legally possible.

You can get a replacement fuel heater for a bit over $100. If you can change a fuel filter, you can replace the fuel heater element. Pull the filter, unscrew the center post (LEFT hand threads), remove the fuel heater element and replace.

From what I understand from another member's experience, the Int'l part will look different from yours, but installs the same way and works fine. Might have been a redesign to eliminate your type of failure.

Thats great advice, try to remember to buy Int parts, they can be up to 1/3rd off OEM. I have it memorized now, saved $100 on a CPS and this one has over 100,000 miles on it.

I called the dealer today and spoke with the service rep. He said what was being done was replacing the fuel heater, + 1/2 hour labor for that, + the 4 hours they wanted to charge for the initial diagnosis time, totalling $609. I told him that I called the diesel tech there after checking here when 3 people said it was the heater and fuse.

They did tell me that the 4 hour labor would go towards the repair, so the way I figure it, at most, I owe them about $360. I found the Ford part # listing at $150. So with 1 hour install and the part, at most I should be paying $250. I could see them hitting me for the 4 hours labor at most tho. Some have mentioned perhaps going over the dealer if I don't get what I wanted there. Anyone know whom I should contact?

Thanks!

Man, their diesel tech sure is a money maker for them. Does He really know what he is doing, or conveniently burning up the clock. It seems, he is a clock sucker, drawing all the time he can. The customer sure takes a beating. At least, your are good to go for now.
