Anyone have a Bilstein part number for rear shock on 2-3" lifted X?
The application chart doesn't list one for the Excursion rear lifted 2-3". They list one for the Superduty (BE5-6246-H5). Couldn't a guy use the same on an X and just reuse the top ears in the new shocks?
Thanks,
Lane

Which Bilsteins are you going with the EOM replacements (blue and yellow) or the 5100 series? I just got off the phone with a guy at offraodwarehouse and he claims I have to use the 5100 series for mine with a 3-4 inch lift. He also mentioned I would have to get a bolt conversion kit($10.00) for the rear as the shock will not mount to the stock hardware.

Re: Anyone have a Bilstein part number for rear shock on 2-3" lifted X?
I have about 4"s of lift in the back and the shock you are talking about would not fit, I used the lift shock in the front but in the rear it would not compress enough to fit between the axle and the mount so i went with the yellow rear shock for the stock 350, which is about 3"s higher than us to start. I ordered a set of each, one w/lift one with out and had to mix and match them. I will assume you will have the same problem. When they say 3-4" lift this is over stock which is 3 over us so you can see there is no room. The front has a very short travel but they said it would be ok and has been for 50k now. I have 3" in the front.

Re: Anyone have a Bilstein part number for rear shock on 2-3" lifted X?
I talked to a guy at e-shocks and he called Bilstein. That rear 5100 number 6246 should work. It measures 21" collapsed and 32" fully extended. My measurement between the two shock mount points is 27".
I'll let ya know when they come in.
Take Care,
Lane

I put the 5100's on this past weekend (6245 up front) & (6246 in rear). They fit good. So if ya have a 4" lift on your X, these part numbers will work.

Lane

HEY,
THIS IS MY FIRST POST ON HERE, WHATS UP GUYS! I JUST BOUGHT A 01 EXCURSION LIMITED 4X4 WITH THE 7.3, THE ONLY LOGICAL CHOICE OF COURSE. MY QUESTION IS, THE GUY TOLD ME IT HAS A 2 INCH SUSPENSION LIFT BUT I MEASURED THE BLOCKS IN THE REAR AND THEY ARE LIKE 3.5 INCHES. IT HAS 33X12.5 BFG'S ON IT AND CLEARS THEM WITH ROOM TO SPAIR. DO YOU THINK ITS PROBABLY A 3.5 OR 4 INCH LIFT? I GOT A SWEET DEAL ON A PAIR OF BILSTEIN 5100 SERIES 6246 H5 SHOCKS AND WANT TO PUT THEM ON THE REAR. I DID SOME MEASURING AND SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM MAKING THEM FIT. JUST LOOKING FOR SOME ADVICE. ALSO, ON THE FRONT, WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND? THE 6245'S. IT HAS BEEN CONVERTED OVER TO QUAD SHOCKS UP FRONT AND I DONT KNOW IF THAT CHANGED THE SHOCK SIZE OR NOT AND WAS WONDERING IF I SHOULD GO BACK TO A SINGLE UP FRONT OR JUST MEASURE AND MAKE SURE BEFORE I ORDER. IT WOULD BE MORE EXPENSIVE BUT IT WOULD LOOK SWEET WITH 2 BILSTEIN 5100'S ON EACH SIDE UP FRONT. SORRY FOR SO MUCH AT ONCE, JUST ALOT OF QUESTIONS. I LOOK FORWARD TO MANY MORE POST AND GETTING TO KNOW YOU GUYS A BIT MORE. I AM IN LIBBY, MONTANA AND ITS IN THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE STATE. THIS IS MY FIRST TURBO DIESEL AND SOMETHING I HAVE BEEN DREAMING ABOUT FOR A LONG TIME. I AM GETTING RID OF MY 00 SUBURBAN FOR THIS NEW EXCURSION, A MUCH BETTER RIG IF YOU ASK ME. THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT!
I Pm's you with my #. I would use the #5100 ones you can get in the rear but..I'd get #5125 or #5150 valved correctly for the front. I would definitely keep the dual shock mount in front as the Ex IMO is the only truck that really benefits from duals in front.
What does it look like in the front..a hanger kit, add a leaf or a mini spring kit??
Cary

How to you remove the shock where its mounted up top. It looks the the top is recessed and it has some sort of mounting plate with a bolt on each side. It should be fun trying to get in there with the fuel tank in the way too, Yippee! I cant wait to tackle this one. I tried changing the diff fluid and napa has given me the wrong gasket 2 times in a row now. I just got home and saw it was wrong again, I told him its a 12 bolt and its for the rear and he gives me the gasket for the front which is a 10 bolt. Its in a sealed box so I could not check it first, but next time I will make him open it first before I go home and see I have the wrong one again. I sure am glad I found this site. It seems like all I do is day dream about upgrading the X, my wife is sure sick of hearing about it, so now I can blab about it here. ha ha ha! Have a great weekend and anyone who has changed the rear shocks out, please let me know how it went. Thanks

Shocks are easy to change IMO. You will need to remove the cross T and install it in your new shocks.
You don't need a gasket..get the grey sealent from Ford.

Thanks for the answer. I will do that today and hopefully I can find some sealant at napa. It just looked kind of weird from below and I have not seen a mount like that before but I am not a mechanic either, obviously! Thanks!
