The V's are just one notch above (higher rating) than the U's. Can't remeber the excat ratings off hand, but they can be found on this site. Pretty sure Bruce1954 has posted and reposted them a few times. Many have installed V's and even higher than that [W's, X's] with varied results. I think it really comes down to what you are going to use your truck for. For example, if you want to plow with it, you would obviously want higher rated springs than for just driving and the occassional tow. Plenty of reading about spring swaps and results. Just do a search in the various forums.
I went with the U-codes. I followed plenty of threads about this before making my decision. I just wanted a good ride and for the truck to look and feel a bit more level in it's stance. After reading the testamonials about U codes on the Excursion, my mind was made up. Think I remember reading somwhere where the V's left the truck almost perfectly level, but tended toward a nose-high stance when any tongue weight was applied to the rear. Of course, this was probably using the factory hitch and not a weight distributing hitch with the load equalizer bars.
If interested in these V's and not lcoal to the seller, you might want to check on shipping first. These things are rather heavy (read: pricey to ship ).

I have decided to go with a set of take-off V codes. The price was good and the guy was local so no shipping cost. I am in no rush to put them on. I guess I will wait for some good instructions to be posted and some good weather. . I am also considering adding air bags to rear which should take care of any nose high situation. With the air bags, V code front springs, E range tires and weight distrubition equipment on board, I am ready for some serious towing. (Smokey - I have not forgot the gauges, just waiting on the wife to let go with some more funds. )
Hope this helps,
John

I've got a set of take-off V-Codes from my 2002 F350 PSD. Only have about 500 miles on them. Went with the X Springs. Going with the W's on the X. Will deliver within reason.

You might want to hold onto them for your '03 unless you're doing X codes on that also
