I am looking forward to upgrading my stock X springs to something Super Duty. I have been looking for some V's and B's, but just found a good deal on some U's and P's from a 2003 F250 CC FX4.
From what I have read, the U's have a little less capacity than V's and the P's have more capacity than the B's. I plan on following Cary's recipe for rear spring packs so I can keep my towing capacity and improve my ride.
Is anyone running a set of U's and P's stock or modified? If so, what do you think?
Thanks!!

I recently put U codes on the front of my 2000 diesel excursion (because I got them for $50 for the pair on craigslit). My old springs had 100k miles, and the U codes were said to have 13k.
They raised the front 1 3/4 inches on the passenger side, and 1 7/8 inches on the driver's side.
I would have preferred to put on V codes, but for the price I couldn't pass it up. If you are getting a great deal on the U codes, go for it, it's well worth the upgrade - nicer drive, especially on speed bumps...
I haven't tried the P's but based on the weight ratting I would think they would be stiffer and ride harder than B's modded or not. My mod has you replacing the thin spacer-shim and replacing them with the 1/8" ones from the Ex springs. This allows more flexibility and a softer ride. The addition of the 2 short Ex bottom springs to the B codes just gives a height change and IMO doesn't affect the ride quality. If you want to try the P's I would replace the thin shims with the Ex ones. You may or may not need the 2 extra leafs with the P's.

What about using one leaf from the stock X D-codes and adding it to the U-codes? Could you cut the spring wraps off of the ends and use it like an add-a-leaf?
The P-codes might be worth trying since a lot of my highway time is with the back of the X loaded with luggage, tools, baby toys, a chocolate lab, etc...

Leave the lab at home and give it shot. If the price is real good what do you have to lose??

Us will be fine in the front I am not sure of the P code and how it compairs to the B and F I would look into it.
The difference between the V and U up front is about 3/16" of an inch, most Xs sit about 1/4" low on the left due just more heavy stuff on that side, drivers controls and spare tire. the AC stuff on the right is just full of air and a few small motors.
As you can see I have one U code on the right front and a V on the left.
The Left still sits low and that is b4 I get in.
Does anyone know how the P compairs to the F?
Have you looked for the info on the P?
I know the A, B, and F are well documented here if you can find it.
Look under CaryT and my name in your search
I would not discount it just because it has not been tried but then I was the first to use Vs up front as far as I know.

From the above :
The B's are 320/670 and the F's are 334/776 any one have the dual rate numbers for the Ps?
Not sure I ever posted what I did or "over did" to my F codes:
I added the third leaf up form the old G code X rears ala "boertje" "F-code modifications-another way" But I also added the second leaf up and the rear sits a little high and it could be softer.
I have had some very heavy loads on the rear and about all they do istake it a bit below level (I am talking Pintle hitch here with no WD hitch)
I am thinking of removing what was the second leaf up and is now my bottom leaf and see what I get. Also I do not have the overload from the F code installed but I do have the original X Anti-Wrap installed with clearance between the rubber bumper on it and the spring above.
Still think the U-V combo up front works out great and would do it again.

Thanks for the added input, Bruce. That makes me feel a little better about giving it a try. I will give the guy a call back and see if he still has them. If not, then I'll keep up the search. Anything would be better than stock!

I'm running U fronts and A rears because they were a freebie. Great price. It did pump up the rear by 1 3/4 and about 1 1/4 in the front. Works better than the stock Excursion springs.

I found a set of V/A springs today for $75. I think I'm going to give that a shot. I have a set of 285 Nitto Terra Grapplers ready to go on. I still need to get my thicker rear sway bar and shorter bump stops for the front.
