Does anyone know how these new style hubs hold up compared to the old Auto hubs? I had 4 sets replaced on my 96 F-350 before going to manuals. I hope these new hubs are not the same junk as the old ones. Even if you have the option of switching to manual lock if the autos go bad they can really screw up the spindle. I know from experience. When Ford replaced my old broken Autos they just pulled the hub and stuck a new one in, not checking the damage done to the spindle. I almost had to replace my spindles when I went to manuals because the threads were so screwed up.
I can tell you this: They are vacuum actuated, and there has been some trouble with the electric vacuum pumps failing. The symptoms are no hub lock, and air flow through the defrost vents only. I suspect the hubs themselves may be more reliable than your past experience. Some have reported hub problems after service caused by damaging or re-using o-ring/s that seal the hubs.
