Aux Idle Control Install Successful!!

The Ford AIC was successfully installed this evening. It works great and I learned a few things during the procedure.

First I want to thank jbkrab, for his past post regarding this issue. I was hoping he would be the guinea pig for this install but that is another story.

I ordered the plug and the order got messed up but the parts manager found me another one without the correct colored wires, I didn't want to wait for the new connector so I took his. If you use another plug go with the function, not the pin placement as the diagram is twisted 180 degrees. I figured that one out before messing up.

1. Take off the fuse panel.
2. Go ahead and take the 2 screws out of the bottom panel and drop the black panel above the brake and gas pedal. This gives you more room to work.
3. Take the 2 screws out of the PCM, this will allow you to pull it into the fuse panel for easier splicing.
4. Find the (+) and (-) bus wires and connected them. They are twisted so find a spot and snip. (At this point you are committed!)
5. I found the Key power coming off another bundle and snip, splice into that and now you are ready.
6. I saved the easy one for last. A ground bolt is located on the inside wall above where the PCM is installed. Attach it with a connector. You are now ready to try it out.

Problems:

Wires don't have a lot flexibility so you have to cut the tape the wires are wrapped in. Be careful, these wires are small. I got to butt together a wire not related to the AIC.

Use larger sized shrink wrap or else you will be sorry. I used too small of shrink wrap to cover the two spliced wires with solder, so I got to do the old black tape thing. And remember, you have to put the shrink wrap on before you solder. Luckily, I had already thought of that but I didn't adjust for the size of the solder over the wires.

Remember: You must push on the Emergency brake, before the unit will operate. Some of us just use the PARK mode and don't engage the brake. You hit the button, nothing happens, you have a little second guessing yourself, and then, Oh, No. Put on the park brake. And it becomes: Oh, YEAH! The RPM's jump and you begin smiling.

I hope this will help others who install their own AIC. I think, it will be short lived before it is standard on the Excursion.

Good Luck!

Re: Aux Idle Control Install Successful!!

Got my APCM installed this morning. Now I have all my toys installed. Next on the list is a remote starter. But I think I'll wait for that one. Spent too much money so far.

Regards,
Ben
