Auxillary Fuel Tank For The X

I know some of you are going to think I"m crazy (like 44 gallons ain't enough), but is there a place to install an Auxillary tank? Anyone making one? I hate having to stop and refuel on long trips. When you're empty, you always end up at the most expensive gas stations. It also takes about 20 minutes off your trip.

Is the fuel tank plastic or metal? I was thinking you would probably have to weld into the present tank to harness some type of hose to connect the 2.

I thought someone might have already done some research on this subject (wanting to do the same thing), and I love gathering info before getting into such a major project .

Re: Auxillary Fuel Tank For The X

Stock tank is plastic and sits in a steel cradle. I have never heard of anyone on this site wanting a bigger tank nor of anyone building one. Not sure where you could put it either once you consider the filler neck, there just isn't room.

Re: Auxillary Fuel Tank For The X

I don't know where you are located, but if you are anywhere near Northern CA, a company called Transfer Flow in Chico CA makes them. I don't know anything about the tank, but the company is very reputable. I had tanks installed in an H1 and they were perfect.

I just called Transfer Flow and they don't make one for the X. This will probably be a custom build.

Re: Auxillary Fuel Tank For The X

If your habit is running until empty, then I think that you would probably do the same if you had more capacity. If your short a few gallons of getting to your destination then dumping in half a tank should only be 5 mins if you have removed the filler restricter. That way you can use the truckers pumps. I have thought about doing the same thing but I found this a lot easier.

Re: Auxillary Fuel Tank For The X

Sorry it wasn't much help. I know I saw the Excursion listed in one of their ads a while back. Maybe it was for another item that they sell???

Good luck with your project.

Re: Auxillary Fuel Tank For The X

They have a bulb out that is supposed to put out like 20% more light, NOT. The upgrade harness from Black Cloud Diesel made a huge difference.

Re: Auxillary Fuel Tank For The X

Take the cap off and look to see if there is a plate with a hole in it
for the nozzel. If so you can cut it out with a dremmel. Remove 3 bolts holding the filler pipe and unclamp from the rubber hose leading to the tank. Take it out and cut out the plate so its just one big hole. Wash and rinse for any debris. Reinstall and now the truckers nozzels will fit.

Re: Auxillary Fuel Tank For The X

Not crazy at all, I looked at installing a tank where the pickups hold one. That spot is open on the X. The problem is filling & a stock F250 tank won't just go there. The stock F250 tank is too tall at the highest point. If it did fit, you would have to install a fill tube in the wheel well.

I'm glad were talking about it, because I'm interested in going WVO on both trucks and I don't want to lose the stock tanks and the fuel capacities for diesel fuel. The WVO would be a complete addition which would give the most flexability out on the road.

I've thought about getting some stainless steel and welding one up. That would last and have no bad side effects with WVO or Diesel.

If enough people want one, then the price to manufacture comes down.
