Well got the time to take the X into the dealer and show them the bad paint spot on the top. Paint guy says looks like possible damage during shipping then covered with different color. While I had him there I questioned him on the orange peel paint job, he couldnt believe his eyes on how bad and extensive the orange peel was. He recommended a trip to the delivery dealer and have a Ford Rep on hand to look at it.
Does anyone have any experience in dealing with Reps when it comes to paint issues? Looks like it'll be a wet sand (paint guy recommended no due to thinning of paint), whole new paint job (hate to get rid of factory paint), or a new X. Could sure use some insight from anyone that has dealt with this type of problem before.

Sorry to hear about your paint, my X had a small bad spot on the roof at the rear corner. It looked like the tip of a sharp screw sticking out, rusting. The dealer took the seam sealer out, fixed the spot resealed and repainted. He actually did a good job too and with out any overspray. He only spot painted but I could not see any blends.
As far as damage goes, my friend is in the biz and he told me that if a dealer has new/untitled car that has been damaged and repaired it must be disclosed to the buyer. This would have to be in letter form, and would be presented at "closing" of your purchase.
On the topic of options, I would take another X as first chioce (in case yours was wrecked)unless you are in love with this particular one, and wet sanding second, and new paint 3rd. Thin paint is not a problem to me as long as the color does not fade. If they do wet sand, then use a paint sealant on your X. I use Liquid Glass, and it can be bought on the net. I will say that I used to have a car detailing biz in college and after and I am pretty anal about my vehicles. New paint will look good on the tops, but your door jams and engine will have overspray all over them and never look right.
Good luck!
Rick

Thanks for the info....one more thing I need help with.
Curious if other X's have the same thing...what I'm looking for is at the top, right at the top rear corner of both rear door jams where the door jam curves around into the top and then on to the roof rail. Do other X's has a deformation in that area. What is appears like on mine is a wavyness on both the left and right sides.
Thanks for any help I'm just trying to track down any other damaged areas.
Mine has the exact same "deformation" at the roof above the rear door, I too thought it was a reason for concern and began looking at other X's and they all seem to have this imperfection. So I guess no worries.
I took a look at mine and noticed the same lil wavvyness.

phew...thanks for the info on the wavyness, least now I know my top wasnt crushed or by X is not breaking in half .
I've got a white X with real heavy orange peel all the way down the right side, not so bad on the left but still there. the top and hood laid down real flat. I'm wondering if I got the first paint job of the day, and the temperature wasnt warm enough yet.
I repair cars for a living and take offense to the statement made above about having your X repainted and having oversparay everywhere. I will put anything I repair on display for anyone to examine and I will bet the only thing wrong you will find is that it looks 10 times better than the factory job. As far as wet-sanding and buffing goes, don't even waste your time. On the top surfaces you may get away with it, but not on the sides. Worked in a Ford dealer for several years both repairing and refinishing so I speak from experience, not out of my a**. Why not the sides but the top ok to wet sand? I'm a little confused on this one. I have very little knowledge when it comes to paint. Heck I can't even do a nice rattle can job on a wagon without it peeling. But I need to a least sound like I know what I'm talking about on this one
