Best all around exhaust??

Easy question but expecting a lot of different answers.

I am looking to upgrade the exhaust on my 02 7.3 Ex. I'd like a good all around turbo back system, and would consider new downpipe. Goal is to increase airflow, lower EGTs. Don't want extreme noise, but do want a 'healthier' sound than stock. $750 (plus install) is budget.

Let the recommendations fly. Thanks.

I have the Magnaflow XL series, which is 409 stainless steel. I paid $460 shipped. You can get the 304 stainless if you want in your price range and still be under $600. Sounds nice outside, but barely louder than stock inside.

I'm half deaf so take this with a grain of salt, but I ran 4" open exhaust (straight pipe) towing a trailer from Tacoma to Alaska and back and never noticed it being any louder than when I had the BTM on it. Outside the truck it seemed to be a little louder, but not from inside the cab. With my new engine, I'll run it open without giving it a second thought. I have done some sound deadening inside the truck, so that might have made a difference. I don't know.

I have the Magnaflow set-up on my truck. Very nice sound with no drone. I'd love to straight pipe my truck but NJ DMV laws prevent that from happening...unless you can find a DMV Inspection Station Manager that likes donuts.

Banks Monster Exhaust here, very happy with it. I would definitely do it again.

4" turbo back SS magnaflow straight piped. There is a huge sound difference from when I had the Magnaflow muffler on...it is now sitting on a shelf in my garage. It is very loud when I tow especially at 60-65 mph. It is also loud any time a get on it. It was very quiet with the muffler on, but it did not have any drone I'll tell you that. You know that helicopter sound or flutter you get with the straight pipe that you love or hate when the muffler was on it had zero of that too. I like it loud and love the wicked turbo sound I get out of the tail pipe. To each their own.

IMHO, Walker BTM and a SS tip. $100 installed. Sounds decent, flows good, EGT's drop. Spend your leftover $650 where it matters (tunes, bushings, swaybar, radius rods etc).

Tx

I'll ditto that. I've had two Excursions and know quite a few other local owners as well; All but myself have experimented to no end with exhaust systems without any more gain in lowered EGT or raised mpg than I have experienced with the stock exhaust run straight-piped or with a BTM. IMHO, you can use the cash elsewhere.

JAFO, thats what I am trying to say. Many, many friends and fellow PSD owners have spent mega $$ on exhaust only to find they just BLEW $$. Swallow the ego and put the $$ where it makes a difference Honestly!!!!!!

I suggest either MBRP or Magnaflow. Both kits fit and sound great. Install is very straight forward and can be done in your driveway. All Magnaflow kits and the MBRP stainless come with a lifetime warranty. Let me know if I can help with anything.

I went ahead and ordered the Walker BTM and bailed on replacing the entire exhaust, at least for now. Hopefully the low flow restriction BTM will have a noticable impact, at least on the EGTs. Thanks for all the input.

I don't know about Magnaflow but MBRP works pretty well with their 4 in down pipe. No fitment issues that I had.

Boy, I'm hoping on the same thing.

So, from Dave M:

muffler delete, 75* drop total
Cat back 4" 175* drop total
Turbo back 4" 6" tip another 100* drop, 275* total?

Thanks,
Brett

I'd do the 4 in and get it over with instead of doing bit by bit.
