BF Goodrich 295s

My Firestones look awful puny in my wheelwell. Anyone have information comparing the BF Goodrich 295s to the Firestones. How does the ride compare assuming no other modifications? I want to spring for the bigger tires because I'd like to fill out the wheelwell more, but I don't want to sacrifice ride. Any advice?

Re: BF Goodrich 295s

I put 295 BFG TA KO's on my 350 CC today and then drove about 150 miles. I have not made any other suspension changes yet. The ride is definitely improved. Road vibration is less and the vehicle handles better on the very bad roads. There may be a very slight increase in road noise; detectable in the X but not in the CC. We have not found any change in fuel economy on the X (the PCM was recalibrated). I am guessing that the lower effective gear ratio is evenly offset by the increased rolling resistance of the wider tire.

I think the change is worth the investment just for the actual performance gain. Since I have lost confidence in Firestone and will not have them on any vehicle I own, the change has become mandatory.

BTW: If you have moulded mud flaps, you will get a slight amount of rubbing of the tire on the flap when the wheels are turned fully. On both my vehicles, the rubbing is on one side only. I expect after 10,000 miles or so it will stop as the tire starts to wear down.

I just noticed today that the X rubs on both sides.

gadkins1:

Please! tell me where you got your Lexan winter front for the Excursion? Part Number? Did you have to make any mods to install it?

I've used a Lund for my Suburban, was happy with it.
