I am considering these tire for my 2 wd excursion that never goes offroad. Size 265/75 16 D. Anyone use these tires on their excursion? Are they as quiet as or more quiet compared to the firestones? How many miles can I expect from these? Do they have better wet traction? Feel free to answer any other questions that may be relevant, even if I did not ask it.
I know that many of you believe that Consumer Reports is stupid, but here is what they said:
Dry Braking - Excellent
Wet Braking - Excellent
Emergency Handling - Good
Snow Traction - Good
Ice Braking - Very Good
Notes -
"Excellent. Very good dry cornering, fair wet cornering. Excellent resistance to hydroplaning."
Over the last 10 years, I have bought 3 different tires that scored highly in CR's tested, and I have not been disappointed yet. A friend bought a 4th recommended tire and loved them. However CR tests tires, in my experience, their recommendations have been right on.
By the way, the Dayton Timberlines that I am running scored even higher than the BFG's. Cheaper too.
I’ll put a plug in for the AT-Revo’s Again
They are Cheaper than the BFG’s
They are speed rated, The Dayton’s do not appear to be by the Bridgestone/Dayton site. Easy to compare since they are the same Company, same format.
I have the OE stones back on know but can't wait for them to wear out so I can put the AT Revo’s back on.
BTW the OE tire cover will fit over a 285-75 the first time I tried I said this will never fit. But I found on this site that someone had done it with a lot of time and patience, something I may lack from time to time. Thought about it a bit and covered the tire with heavy polyethylene sheet the cover slid right on. Then I put a weight in the center for a few hours to give it a little more stretch and if fits snug but ok now.

I'm not trying to sell anything. If you don't like CR, then the Dayton's won't make any sense to you. If you like CR, I'm just telling you that the Dayton's scored pretty high.

The Dayton tires look like they are offroad tires. As far as cost, I can get the BFG for around $550. The revos were a lot more.

Yes, they are more, but a far superior tire. After all, in most cases you get what you pay for these days.
I've only had my Revo's on for a couple of weeks, but the improvement in the truck is astonishing!
Better ride, better looks, NO highway noise(not the slightest). And of course they rate WAY UP there as far as wet/dry/snow traction, tread life, etc.
I opted for the 285's to give the truck a better "look fit" The fill the wheel wells so much better than the original "pizza cutters". I just never thought a 265 looked right with all that empty wheel well.
Guess I better get some pictures up on my gallery of the new tires.

As compared to what? BFG Long Trails?
If you are comparing to Firestone, Fred Flintstone had smoother tires.
There are a lot of good tires. I had Dueler A/T's (not the Revos). Great tire. I also had Dueler H/L. Another great tire. Many people love Mich. LTS and I see no reason to dispute that. I like my Timberlines, but I am not giving a hard sell.
If he wants Long Trails, I see no reason why he shouldn't get them. I have not read anything bad about them.
Pulled heavy trailers, fast, in a lot of conditions. I have not encountered the handling problem the poster (seseattle) was talking about. It may be related to his combination of shocks, spring and trailer hitch setup, I don't know. I have 16k on my Bridgestones now.

What I want are smooth, quiet tires, with good wet traction. Are the revos as quiet as, or quieter than the firestones (and I am talking about ones with the highway tread). A lot of the responces are people with 4X4, who probably started with off road tires. I'm not sure if their comparisons are valid for my situation.
Are the revos available in the D range? Don't the E range tires have a stiffer ride?
I like the LTX also, but did not want to go with the E range.
If you got the $$ and want smooooooth tires, go with the Michelin LTX M/S.
Load range E generally have extra sidewall belts to handle the extra load, but if you are not going to tow (at least, not very much) D range will work just fine. E's have a load range around 3400 lbs. D's have around 3100 lbs., so they will handle the weight of a loaded X.
Richard,
I have had the BFG Long Trail on my 2K 4x4 X for 15K miles now and am very happy. They are quiet and have good snow, wet and sand traction. I think you will be happy with them and they are far better than the OE Steeltex.
Good Luck

I can tell you that my experience with my new Revo's is (after changing from the Firestones), I was a little worried because the tread is somewhat agressive (although not as bad as the regurlar Dueler A/T's).
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the Revo's make absolutely NO, let me repeat, NO road noise. I was told it has everything to do with the new tread design and the center rib.
My Revo's (285/75-16) are D rated. I saw NO need to even consider E rated tires.
