Time for new tires on our X. I have had great success with the BFG A/T's on my '02 X and '79 Bronco; they are a great tire IMHO. I have heard some nice things about the Revo's mounted on the X. I am only interested in these two tires for our X and looking for some assistance from those who know.
Thanks for the help!!!

The Bridgestone Revos are about the best heavy duty truck tire out there. I asked a manager at Discount Tire (big chain down here) what he thought about the Revos in "D" and "E" range tires. His response startled me...he said, "Unfortunately, we don't sell Bridgestone here. But if we did, I would make a FORTUNE off of selling them. I think they're the best tire out there for the Super Duty trucks!"
How often is it that a manager of a tire store tells you that the best tire for your vehicle can not be bought at his shop? I was impressed with his candor.
I had the BFG's as my 1st tires and decided on the Revo's for my replacements because of Tire Rack rating them as the best tire.
They are quieter than the BFG's and are staying in balance better. I liked the BFG's and thought they looked better, but the out of balance noise drove me crazy.

I got the BFG A/T TA's to replace my Steeltex's. I replaced them at 41K miles. I monitor my tires (and other stuff) pretty close. According to my calculations, I will get 70K of service before they need replaced. Mine don't seem to generate any noise, or I haven't noticed it and I haven't had any problems with balancing or unusual wear patterns. MPG has stayed relatively the same between the Steeltex's and the BFG's. The ride is a little softer with the BFG's, but only by a very small amount. Right now I've got 75K on my truck. Performance in mud and snow is the best I've seen from an on/off road tire. You might want to check www.tirerack.com and their customer reviews for the tires before making a decision. I've never owned any Revo's but I'll definitely look them over when it comes time. But right now I'm very happy with the BFG's.
Have the OE BFGs on the new truck I have my second set of Revos on the rack and they will go on in the fall. The wet traction of the BFGs is very low compared to the Revos.

I have Revo's on both my 2wd X and my 4 wheel drive crew cab. I had BFG's on my crew cab. The BFG's were unbelievably better in mud, but on stock wheels, 285's were hard to keep balanced. The Revo 285's balance out fine on the stock wheels. We have about 60,000 on the revo's on the X, should get about another 10,000 out of them. I will go back with revo's again on the X, but the four wheel drive crew cab needs something with more mud traction.

I ran a diesel fuel injection shop for 10 years, ran a wrecking yard for 2 years, have owned and worked on Fords for all my driving life 30+ years. I said I would never own a diesel again, now I own 2. Never say never.
I haven't had much trouble with mine so far. I had them match balanced when purchased them and have only had to rebalance them once but only because a failing front bearing threw them out of balance. I don't think that the Revo tires look very aggresive and the name Bridgestone doesn't reassure me much.
I put Revo's on the Ex two years ago and couldn't wait to get them off. When changing lanes it felt like you were driving on jello. I tried different pressures and that didn't help much. I went into a Discount tire and the manager named the symptom as "tread squirm". He indicated that several different tires used softer rubber in the tread to get better traction, but it couldn't stand up to higher weight vehicles like the Ex. My first trip pulling an 8,000 lb. trailer convinced me to change them - more like scared me to change them.
i have the 20" bfgs on my x and they seem to be wearing good....but i cant seem to get them to balance for anything!!!! they have abot 8000 miles one on the front has 13 ounces of weight and still not round my tire guy told me he has seen alot og=f this on the bfgs im thinking of calling bf g and letting them know of the probs im having and see what they say......my 2 cents

I am very happy with my Revo Dueller A/T LT265/75R16E this is the second set I have owned, I got the very first set of the E range in this area when they came out. I have been very happy with them.
I pull a 10,000 pound horse trailer in the summer time and a 24 foot enclosed snowmobile trailer in the wintertime. They handle very well and the wintertime traction is outstanding. Got about 70k on the first set with 1 rotation and they had 4/32" of tread left when I took them off at the start of last winter.

Just put the E rated Revo's on our X a few weeks ago, they seem like a nice riding tire to me. The owners of the tire shop I went to had them on their rigs as well. That's gotta count for sumthin'.
The X had some pirelli's on it when I bought it. I wasnt impressed with those... and they were definatly not going to work on our trips to the Montana cabin in February!

For those who have trouble balancing your tires. Are you all having them Match or speed balanced. When you do less weights are used. Plus I have heard that trying to mount larger tires on stock rims don't work very well because the rim is so much lighter than the tire.
I guess the poll has been closed, but I would vote Revo's.
BTW, I bought mine (285's) at Discount!! They don't carry them, but they were able to get them, in less than 12 hours at that! They wee a little more than I might have gotten them for elswhere, but no one had them or could get them at the time. Think it was $600 out the door and that's leaving my OEM "whatever they were" tires it had.
