Thinking about getting the Bilsteins. Tell me what the difference is like ove stock (over Ranchos if anyone has experience with both).
Looks to me like the Bilsteins are made better.....but the adjustability of the Ranchos has me thinking about them also.

Same here. I want a good, firm ride. The wife also has to be happy, so not to firm. I like the idea of being able to tighten the shocks up when I tow. Looking for comments.

If you have or will take you X on gravel/bumpy/torn up roads for any length of time you will crawl under and kiss your 9000's. Don't get me wrong I like the Bilsteins alot but after 18 miles of Oklahomas/Arkansas fines stone roads I finally understood why the adjustability. (I made the first 4 miles on 3/3 after that 1/1 was heaven!!)
Haven't sampled the Ranchos but I did recently go from stock to Bilsteins. It completely transformed the truck - no more bouncing, no more porpising around. Ride quality is still outstanding. Highly recommended.
note - if you plan on getting a 4" exhaust, put the shocks on first. The exhaust gets kind of in the way of getting a wrench on the right rear.

Same here,no-one in my truck ever complains, they only compliment the ride. Then I'm not on those rocky roads much, but having control of the beast is worth the money.
I'm installing my garage lift this coming Friday and the first job on the lift will be to install my Bilstens, they have been sitting in the garage for 3 weeks.
The second job will be the Helwig rear sway bar, it has been waiting also.
90% of the mileage on the X, about 60,000 has been towing a 8500 # enclosed car trailer, I took the X, not towing, from SC to MI and without the trailer I could really feel the thing swaying and bouncing, I guess the poor quality original equipment shocks are dead.

I have Bilsteins on my 96 Caprice and will definetly put them on the X. Do 2 wheel drives need the rear sway bar? My handling seems fine its just the worn out OEM shocks that are a problem.

Are there 2 versions of Bilsteins for the X or just one? I thought there was a low cost version and a top end version. Any clarification would be appreciated.
