Blackstone Report

Just got my BSL report back and they say my engine is pristine at 43k! I use Rotella 15W/40, change about every 3k, and tow once an month. Most use is around town and 350 miles a wk on the interstate. As my sig shows I run the Airaid filter, and clean everyother oil change. BSL says I could extend out to 4k oil change if I wanted to. Being new to diesels and haveing two good reports makes my heart happy. One of the reasons I have done oil testing is I bought the truck used with the Airaid Filter already in, and there being talk on this BB that some were not happy with the filtration of the cotton and foam setups. My two reports show that I am not having any problems. If I were wouldn't they show up in the report??
Seems like most posts are about bad things so I just thought I'd post some good ones.
And again, JMHO and experience.

Re: Blackstone Report

Congrats!

I'm doing the oil analysis for exactly the same reasons as you are. So far all of mine have been great. I figure that the first time my silicon gets over the universal averages I'll either put on a new filter or switch the intake setup. I'm going to start playing with a "sock" that slips over my K&N after the next oil change to see what effect it has.

One thing to be aware of with the Cotton/Gauze setups is that their filtration efficiency actually increases the dirtier they get. If you clean it every 6k you're actually letting more "dirt" into your engine than if you cleaned it every say 12k or 18k. I'm trying to go 15k (3 5k oil changes) on mine and then I'm rotating it with a different filter that's been cleaned/oiled and sitting on the shelf. It would probably be even better if I went 20k between rotations.

Have a good one,
Dave
