Brake Actuater

I have conflicting answers to weather or not the brake control is built in. I have a plug in pig tail from the factory and I thought it was for this. Do we have an automatic one installed and the pig tail is for a self controled control? I just bought a 25ft snowmobile trailer with brakes and am picking it up tonight. It weighs 2600lbs so I can get home without them if it is not already there. Thanks.

Re: Brake Actuater

No, there is nothing built in. Just the wires and the pig tail so that you can install your own.

Re: Brake Actuater

You are getting a mixed story because:

X comes "pre-wired" ready for a controler with wires all run to the rear

Pig tail is to wire to the pigtail of the controller

I soldered and heat shrinked mine to make a "factory Like" adapter:

Tekonsha Prodigy ==========> FORD

Then you just plug it in mount and go.

No control included you must buy the one that suits you.

Many of us use the Tekonsha Prodigy and most like it real well I think, do a search, It is on the high end but on this you do get what you pay for. I don't tow much so see some other posts on this.

Try here, best price I found ====> http://www.brakecontroller.com/

Also 2600#s of empty trailer behind the X, no problem you may notice you added something.

Add 6 sleds and gear and now you will want the brakes.

Re: Brake Actuater

One more thing you may want to add and the cost is low or free if you have a good single pole switch in your "extra stuff" box,
I am assuming you have two axles; IF both have brakes put a switch on the rear axle assuming the springs are fixed at the front of the front springs and the rear of the rear springs. If you get into some nasty snow and ice you can cut off the brakes in the rear axle and then only worry about stopping and less about jack-knifing. You may not stop as fast but the trailer may stay behind you better on ice. I am assuming you may travel up and down 131 in not the best of conditions. I was told once that this is why some dual axle trailers only have one set of brakes, I think it is to save cost but a switch gives you a choice.

hope that helps
