C Code rears - looking for help

First, I would like to thank CaryT for the over the phone advice and great price on new shocks, as well as everyone else that has posted tons on information on the forum, it has been very helpful.

Question:
I have a set of 2005 C codes - this was determined by the ford parts guys using the codes on the springs. I do not have the donor truck info.

I have performed many searches and have come up with the info provided in this link:
Getting Ready to Order Rear Springs

I'm just not 100% sure of the rate for this year C code. In the ford parts system, they only list a C & F code in 2005 and the parts guys could not locate rates for the springs. In looking at the 2005 data in the link above, it appears that the 2 choices are 7000 lb & 9000 lb - is it save to assume C is the 9000 lb spring?

Thoughts on how this would work on the X?

Has anyone tried to install the C codes on the X? If so, which leafes do you recommend changing, or would I still follow the B & F mod instructions?

I tried to search all the past posts, but the above link seems to have the most 2005 realted data.

Thanks for any and all help
Jason

I can tell you that for the 1999 to at least 2002 the C code was for the DRW 350 and the base spring was rated at 8250#s

I do not know of any one who has used the C codes.
Here is a bit of data from the 2002 informaiton

F-250-350 SRW Pickup (B code) 6830#s 5 leafs, 2.94 Thick, 58.1 long, 3.00 WIde 320/670 spring rate, 2998#s per pad

F-350 DRW Pickup (C Code) 8250 5 Leafs, 2.32 Thick, 58.1 Long, 3.00 Wide,
350/730 Spring Rate 3626#s per pad

In All they may work well BUT I have no idea as to the arch if it is more or less than the old B codes I believe a taller block was used on the 350 DRW.

It may work fine I expect it would be on the stiff side.

Can you post a picture?

If the arch is about the same you have them I would give it a try.

If they are to much then remove the bottom leaf and replace it with a G code leaf possibly????

Don't know for sure you are in uncharted waters here! And just when I thought we had all the X Vs SD springs combos tried out!

You found the right thread that was when I was re-springing the Rear of my 05, my 02 had bags.

Thank you Bruce ...
Yes, I will try to post a pic as soon as I can. The engineering code located on the spring is 6C34-5A975-CA. According to the parts guy, this translates to spring part number of 6C3Z-5560-C, which does show as a 2005 F250 spring part number or F350 SRW part number, so this confuses me even more.

Maybe someone could verify the engineering code - anyone have access to this?

I could try to make this work, or go find some B's or F's - which in my area has not been very easy.
Thanks for the help,
J

Just because the part number ends in a C they may or may not be C codes
I am not saying they are not but???

I can tell you C codes from 99 to 03 were DRW (350) only as far as I can tell.

Also 6C3Z-5560-C should have one more letter at the end I think it is the Rev level so 6C3Z-5560-CA would be the first version then B and so on

For example 2C3Z-5310-GA
2 = 2002
C3=Truck
Z= Service part

5310 Front leaf Spring

GA = U codes
HA = V code

Yes it would have been better if VA was a V and UA was a U but that would make it to easy for us to figure out!

So for your part I am guesing:
6C3Z-5560-C

6 = 2006 Makes sense if recent take offs could be 06 and up if no change
C3 = Truck
Z= Service
5560 Rear Leaf Spring
C ???????????????????????????

Now I have no Idea what the codes are for 2006

Ask your Dealer if helpfull to look up all the part numbers
For a 2006 250 with the varius spring codes one of them should be F code but are the others E D and C if so I would think the C to be very soft.
Some of the letters could have been skipped as well in 99 it was only As Bs and Cs for 250s and 350s

In other words you should come back to the 6C3Z-5560-C number he gave you.

As far as I know since 99 the higher the letter ABC and so on the stiffer the spring. As in the old front leafs they went STUV 250-350 then WX 450 550
Except the X was available on 250s(??) and 350s with snow plow option.

What is the thickness of your springs??

I have to visit the parts department to pick-up some other parts and will ask them again to verify. I will also get some thickness measurements from the leafs this evening. In searching the part number, this is what I find on the various parts web sites.

"6C3Z5560C
Rear suspension - Suspension components - Leaf spring
Leaf spring, f250 pick-up, single rear wheel, w/auxiliary spring - 1999-07 super duty 2005 - 2007"

Thanks again for the help - this stuff gets addictive!!

Best I can masure it appears the leafs are approx. 3/10th of an inch at center.

Another thing is this part number replaced a previous part number for the same year, I will try to get the orginal part number to see if that sheds any light on it all.

Not the best pic, but maybe it will help. Got home too late and ran out of dayligth.

Thanks,
J

Try to measure the thickness of the 4 main leafs total including the 3 spacers between them.

It looks a lot like an F or B but then they all are rear springs and all look alike
It takes very little to change the rate a good bit.

You will have to remove the top overload leaf and the spacer block

BTW Nice garage floor!

Thanks on the garage floor, it makes clean up easy!

The 4 main leafs and spacers measure about 1 3/4 inch total.

I should have the alt part number tomorrow.

Thanks,
J
