Changing Transmission Fluid

Hello All
I’m getting ready to change my Transmission fluid this weekend. The last time it was done was at a dealer, I plan on doing it myself this time. Should I do anything special, other then draining it and changing the filter? I have 215000 miles on it.

Thanks
William

Any idea of what size clear tubing (to buy) to fit over the cooler hose? 2002 with 4R100 tranny.

Re: Changing Transmission Fluid

1/2" OD, 7/16" ID usually works.

Re: Changing Transmission Fluid

I am going to change my trans fuild this weekend also, I downloaded the file shown above (it is great and well written) however, it is missing a couple of details, one is what is the torque of the pan bolts? And second, if I am lucky enough to have the drain plus on my torque converter, what is the torque of the drain plug?

Please don't consider my questions a slam against the help provided in the article above, someone did a great job in detailing the instructions and will save me a lot of time.

Finger tight is scary to me, there must be a torque value to use?

Further to the above, I just got back from my local Ford Dealer, following are the torques values to change your trans fluid:

Transmission pan = 11 Foot Pounds
Trans Pan Drain Plug = 18 Foot Pounds
Torques Converter Access Cover = 15 Foot Pounds
Torque Converter drain plug (if equiped) = 9 Foot Pounds
